This guide is not a typographic code that rules for every case everywhere, but it is generally admitted as a good base for typesetting french documents. because it' set at the wrong place, i'll fix it and upluad a beta
dedicated to you (keep in mind that \currentpage in mkii/mkiv is the
page in the file, aka realpage)

Of course, should be 1°, 2°.
I believe that No means that \primo, \secundo, ... and \No, \Nos, ...
make absolutely NO sense in mkiv, nor does \degre as we have unicode input.
Nothing, of course, prevents a user from defining \degre, etc.
if he/she prefers to write input in this way.
(I suppose that one could take a similar position on other, traditional
TeX definitions like \ldots and many others...)

well, i got the minimals running by rerunnig first-setup.bat, it seems i installed the first time with -current which has some problems (i thought that'd be the stable one?). but the \showmathcharacters problems are still there, the table is empty and i get pdfTeX warning: pdftex.exe: no GlyphToUnicode entry has been inserted yet! using this layout \setuplayout[backspace=1cm, rightmargin=0.58cm, width=fit, topspace=1cm, header=1cm, footer=1cm, height=fit] i also get ! ok, this was the problem:
the math definition files are read and then the column width is
calculated which is used in a second read
as the files to be used now have the mkii suffix, no file is read and we
end up with 24 columns which is too much for tex's calculations
I now intercept that as well as fixedthe loading (to use mkii files)

When I place a figure at the bottom of a page, everything is fine if it splits a paragraph, but if it falls between paragraphs, indentation of at least one of the paragraphs, generally the one coming after the figure, is lost. It appears that this has been a problem for some people over the years. Is there something else I should do? I still have 2 instances of the paragraph immediately after a figure not indented. Both of these are on the tops of their respective pages. And I have one paragraph just before a figure that is not indented. I tried \indenting[yes] for the paragraphs in question to no avail.
