[NTG-context] page-break

2010-04-20 Thread Jörg Hagmann

Dear list members,

My biggest problem have always been seemingly arbitrary page breaks
occuring every now and then in larger documents; and because I don't see
a pattern, I can't create a minimal example. But maybe you can make a
suggestion based on the following:

The section below produces a page break seen in
http://www.ogbasel.ch/version-1.pdf.
If the line \page[no] is inserted, the page break occurs as shown in
http://www.ogbasel.ch/version-page-no.pdf

Mark IV, on linux and Leopard
Context version 2010.03.02 12:34
The font is Gentium at 10.5

Thanks, Jörg

2010-04-20 Thread Mojca Miklavec
Dear Tiger users of ConTeXt minimals,

I have another tiny request for you. Can you please download luatex
version 3520 and 3559 for your platform from
http://dl.contextgarden.net/misc/luatex/
rename it into luatex and do
chmod +x luatex
to make sure that it's executable. Then replace that version of luatex
with the one in your ConTeXt distribution.

It would be nice to know which versions fail to work to make it easier to debug.

Thanks a lot,
Mojca

PS for Dick: this is the promissed version of cross-compiled LuaTeX -
the version 3590 is the one equivalent to the latest beta that
certainly fails to work (Bus error).

[NTG-context] Grid typesetting, colums and vertical spacing

2010-04-20 Thread Jan Pohanka

Hello,

I'm trying to typeset on the grid, but I also need to reduce vertical
spacing around headings. Unfortunately when i specify the 'before/after'
setting for head, grid typesetting fails.

Is there any option to make \blank more flexible?
(I'm using MKII)

example:

\setupoutput[pdftex]

\setuppapersize[A4,landscape][A4,landscape]
\setuplayout[backspace=0.5cm,topspace=0.5cm,top=0cm,footer=0.5cm,

Is the normal(?) behaviour broken and the solution in your url a

These are the context things which are very frustrating for a normal

Re: [NTG-context] \define...

2010-04-20 Thread Vyatcheslav Yatskovsky

Curiouser and curiouser! cried Alice.
:)

context has two different versions of \define, there is one in
syst-ext.mkii/syst-aux.mkiv
which has no parameters but prevents you from overwriting a existing
command (there \redefine
with allows this) and another one in core-sys.mkii/mkiv which replace
the first one and has
support for parameters but replace on the other side the old definition
(you get only the
terminal message)

the question is, which behavious is correct, replace the old macro or
keep it, in my
opinion \define should leave the old definition untouced and \redefine
should be used
in this case (but we need a version with parameters)

Re: [NTG-context] LuaTeX beta-0.60.0 on Mac OS X Tiger (was: Latest beta...)

Hi Mojca,

I downloaded as asked.

Version 3520:
luatools --generate does generate the database.
context --make all results in a bus error.
mtxrun results in a bus error.

Version 3559:
luatools --generate results in a bus error.
mtxrun results in a bus error.

:-( So we are not yet further I am afraid.

Kind regards

I found a page [http://nxg.me.uk/docs/posters/] dedicated for printing

It seems that the first it's only EPS dependant. Is there any way to

[NTG-context] Page headers drop capitals not working but pagenumbering is

2010-04-20 Thread Tom
The following code numbers the pages as I desired and the TOC lists those
page numbers. However, it is not doing two things as I desire and would
appreciate it if someone could indicate precisely which lines of code need
to be corrected.

In the front matter, page headers should be on the recto of the TOC (page
vi) and pages 2 and 3 of the introduction. Page headers seem to be operating
correctly in the body of the book.

\placeinitial is not creating drop capitals on the first page of each
chapter in the body of the text.

Example code follows:

%figure on left - chapter number and title on right
\def\MyChapterCommandM#1#2% #1 is number, #2 is text

 {\externalfigure[flowers][width=.2\textwidth]}

Thanks. But is it possible to scale it and put margins at each slicepage?

[NTG-context] packed itemize and beforehead

2010-04-20 Thread Honza Pohanka

Following construction does not work for me.

\setupitemize[each][packed][beforehead={}]

Is there any possibility to suppress the vertical space around \head in
packed itemize?

(latest MKII)

greetings Jan

[NTG-context] Questions about \setuphead and \framed

2010-04-20 Thread Michael Ewe
Hi ConTeXt Gurus,
enclosed please find a little snippet of code:

%---snip--snip--snip---
\usetypescript[pagella]
\setupbodyfont[pagella,rm,11pt]
\definefont[FontA][Sans at 36pt]

\definehead[ChapterA][chapter]
\setuphead[ChapterA][command=\Cmd,style=\FontA]
\definehead[ChapterB][chapter]
\setuphead[ChapterB][command=\Cmd,textstyle=\FontA,numberstyle=\FontA]
\def\Cmd#1#2{%
\hbox{%
{\framed[frame=on,offset=none,strut=1cm]{#1}}
{\framed[frame=on,offset=none,strut=1cm]{#2}}
}
}

\starttext

\ChapterA{Test}
\Cmd{\FontA 1}{\FontA Test}
\hbox{%
{\framed[frame=on,offset=none,strut=1cm]{\FontA 1}}
{\framed[frame=on,offset=none,strut=1cm]{\FontA Test}}
}

\ChapterB{Test}
\Cmd{\FontA 1}{\FontA Test}
\hbox{%
{\framed[frame=on,offset=none,strut=1cm]{\FontA 1}}
{\framed[frame=on,offset=none,strut=1cm]{\FontA Test}}
}
\stoptext
%---snip--snip--snip---

The code defines 2 chapter headings (ChapterA, ChapterB) and my assumption is,
that the effect of setting style=... and fontstyle=..., numberstyle=...
should be the same. As an additional test I included the usage of \Cmd and a
manual copy of \Cmd in the normal text. If you run this through ConTeXt MkIV
you will see:

1 The frames in the chapter both headings are much bigger than in the normal
text.

2 The gap between the chapter number and the chapter name is different for
chapter 1 (on page 1) and chapter 2 (on page 2). The word test is not
aligned

3 The value of strut has no effect at all.

I am trying to mimic a chapter style in a book of mine, but with the result
above I am not sure about the tools to use.

Best Regards from Germany,
Michael Ewe

[NTG-context] right aligned footnote

2010-04-20 Thread Honza Pohanka

Hello,

I can't find out, how to place footnote on the right side of the page.

\setupfootnotes[location=page]
\setupnotedefinition[footnote][location=right]

This places the number on the right, but the text remains on the left.

greetings
Jan

Hi,

I was updating the wiki page on \framed and realized that I do not know
the difference between height=broad|fit in \framed. Reading pack-rul

Is there a difference between the two? If not, why do we have two values

Re: [NTG-context] [pdftex] Problem: testing MkIV on pdftex-t manual source

2010-04-20 Thread Taco Hoekwater

Hi,

Reinhard Kotucha wrote:

 And why Martin Schr\oder instead of Martin Schröder? The last time I
 wrote \o instead of ö in a document was in 1994, just before LaTeX-2e
 was released. But both, LaTeX and Context, support UTF-8 now. It
 allows you to have text written in Vietnamese, Greek, Arabic, Chinese,
 Devanagari... in one and the same TeX source file.

The first version of the pdftex manual dates from 1996 or so, at a
time when sending 8-bit files over the net was far from reliable. And
why go back to change a definition that works (well, did work, until
now)?

Best wishes,
Taco
