what happens if you don't load the mpnum package (or whatever it's

In the file papiers2.mp I have deactivated input format (changed to

In the modules donymodule.mp and geometriesyr16.mp I changed all the

In the modules papiers2.mp and donymodule.mp I have deactivated the

form:

Question Text
\startitemize[random]
\startitem first item \stopitem

If I want the PDF file that has the items in the order I entered them

not a random permutation); is it possible to do that in a way other
than going

and taking out the random from each itemize environment?

Thanks.

Your question has nothing to do with the block mechanism. Your example

Are you sure, this can't be because \startquestion and \startanswer
are nowhere defined.

It works after a few modification.

1. You don't need the \startelements ... \stopelements block at the
begin

   of the file, this is already done in the core.

2. Use in your document \startQuestion ... \stopQuestion and
   \startAnswer ... \stopAnswer

   *or*

   replace \defineenumeration[Question] with
\defineenumeration[question]
   and \defineenumeration[Answer] with \defineenumeration[answer] and
move

   [text=Question] to the definition for the question. Replace also all
   \startAnswer with \startanswer, \stopAnswer with \stopanswer ...

[NTG-context] create and grade multiple choice exams with MUCH an ConTeXT

2008-12-31 Thread batela

Dear Sirs,

For create and grade my MCQ (multiple choice quiz) I use the MUCH
command that in had found at http://fourier.math.uoc.gr/~mk/much/.
this is a very useful command for create and grade quizzes. Actually my
main propose is use MUCH with context (or luatext).

I prepare my exams in this way:
Each question = one file
Question example:

Today is:
.
31 December --- the true question is the first
.
25 December
.
13 Mars
.

In the test-description I include my specifications.
And them I do:
 much create test-description
A mc-outfile.tex is created. Now I do:

pdflatex exam.tex for making the pdf file with all exams. If you can
help I would use ConTeXT to prepare the pdf file.

The migration should be very easy. I think there is necessary to define
in context several commands like:

 \newcommand{\mcglobalheader}

\newcommand{\mcpaperheader}

\newcommand{\mcpaperfooter}

\newcommand{\mcquestionheader}{\noindent{\bf Question
\mcquestionnumber}: }

\newcommand{\mcquestionfooter}{}

In the file questions (mc-output.tex).

 mc-output.tex
\mcglobalheader
\def\mcserialnumber{500}
\mcpaperheader

\def\mcquestionnumber{1}

\mcquestionheader How many circular orderings of the numbers
$0,1,\ldots,10$ are there?
(Two circular orderings which differ only by a rotation are not
considered different.)

\\
{$A$}: $10!$
\ \ {$B$}: $3^{11}$
\ \ {$C$}: $11!$
\ \ {$D$}: $9!$
\ \

\mcquestionfooter

\mcpaperfooter

% another exam

\def\mcserialnumber{501}
\mcpaperheader

\def\mcquestionnumber{1}

\mcquestionheader In how many ways can we select, from a set of 20
people, a committee of 3

different persons with a chair, secretary and member?
\\
{$A$}: $20\cdot19\cdot18$

\ \ {$C$}: $20^3$

[NTG-context] Prepare exams with ConTeXT

2007-06-02 Thread batela

Hello to all:

I need to prepare an exam. The layout must be the following one:

Questions
page
Scores
page
Answers

For example:

\startquestion
In a body with mass=2 kg is applied a force of 2N. Which is the body
acceleration?

 \startanswer
   write F = m a \score[5]
   solve  a = F/m \score[4]
  find and write correctly a = 1 m/s2 \score[1]
  \stopanswer

\stopquestion

The result should be:

Question 1: In a body with mass=2 kg is applied a force of 2N. Which is
the body acceleration?.

Question 2:

Question 3:
__ Page___

Scores

Question 1 . 10 points
Question 2 .. 20 points
Question 3 .. 20 points

___Page
Criteria

Question 1
write F = m a
5 points
resolve  a = F/m4
points

find and write correctly a = 1 m/s2 ... 1 points

are there any way to make this a easy task?

thanks a lot

Re: [NTG-context] Prepare exams with ConTeXT

2007-06-02 Thread batela
Thanks for your support, but I'm afraid that need some major changes to
do what I need in my exam. In fact I need to grade several items in the
answer and in the end of the exam I need a table with the scores of all
questions.

In grading the student answer several aspects should be considerate.
For example:

writing the formula.. points
explain the variables..points
solve mathematically .points
show the result with units...points

In my country all the exams are make in this format: first the
questions/problems/quiz.., second the table scores and third the
specific grading criterions.

I'm looking for a way for writing the question/problem and grade some
items of the answer. Context should be able to separate the questions
from the answer, build the score tables and format the specific grading
criterions.

thanks

Have a nice day

Re: [NTG-context] Prepare exams with ConTeXT

2007-06-02 Thread batela
Thanks a lot. Now I'm very close to the final solution.

In LaTeX there are a exam package that do the summation of the
individual scores and show that in the page bottom and at end of the
exam in tabulate format. Perhaps ConTeXT can do the same in similar
way.

 For placing questions and answers at different locations, use blocks.
 I do not know what is a good way of generate list of scores. I think
 that it can be done using lists, but I do not know lists well enough
 to do that quickly.

 Also if you do not like the fact that lists use \begin ... \end as

[NTG-context] Update context in Suse 9.3

without success: download an install (unpack and texexec --make --all)
cont-tmf in the texmf directory, using texlive.spm (but I found a
rsync time out error). I need urgently to make the update, but I do not

 Which beta version do you use (texexec --version)? If it's not the
 latest one (17.09.) simply update to that version. This bug (typo)
 was
 fixed some beta versions ago.

 normally this !xxx kind of errors point to a missing \protect

 But in this case I had the same error in a prior beta. And if I
 remember
 it right, \blackrule works in the current stable version (and older
 ones).

 This is from a mail I sent you on 31.08.

 I had the text !max in one of my gfx :)

 The typo was corrected in the following beta version. This is the
 reason
 why I think Jorge uses an older beta.

 there is a module, m-pstric.tex

 \usemodule[pstrick]

 \startPSTRICKS
   \pspicture(0,0)(10,10)

 an option is to put the graphics in separate files and/or use checksum

Re: [NTG-context] making multiple choice questions exams

2006-05-28 Thread batela
Thanks very much. In fact, in Context is very easy doing hard tasks.
But, it is great if I can do things like:

n_exam_versions=3;
for (nversion=1 to n_exam_versions)
{
Final Math Exam
Your name:
ID:
Yor exam version is: #nversion;

\startitemize[a,random,packed]
\startitem first  \stopitem
\startitem second \doifmode[answers]{correctchoice}\stopitem
\startitem third  \stopitem
  \startitem fourth \stopitem
\stopitemize

\startitemize[a,random,packed]
\startitem first  \stopitem
  \startitem second \stopitem
\startitem third  \stopitem
\startitem fourth \doifmode[answers]{correctchoice}\stopitem
\stopitemize

\startitemize[a,random,packed]
\startitem first  \doifmode[answers]{correctchoice} \stopitem
\startitem second \stopitem
\startitem third  \stopitem
  \startitem fourth \stopitem
\stopitemize

nversion++;
}

In this way I have all exam versions in a simple document.

[NTG-context] making multiple choice questions exams

2006-05-27 Thread batela
Hi,

I need to make several versions of a multiple choice questions exam. In
each exam the questions have to appear in a different order. Did you
know a easy way to do that?

Thanks

Jorge

This is a great example. Many thanks. Another question: why only two
columns?

Thanks a lot

 What is the correct scales for the fonts?

 Hi,

 I always start tasks like that by setting the paper size and switching
 \showframe ;). About the font size: the poster should be readable from
 1.5
 meter distance. It's good to start from at least 24 pt. You surely
 realise
 that you have to be extremely concise in your texts, so you may end up
 at
 something like 21 pt (which is suboptimal but acceptable).

 Attached you find an example (figures not included). Feel free to
 modify
 it, share and enjoy.

 Jorge

 BTW, we'd appreciate if you used your real name in the From: header.

 Have a nice towel day,
 D.A.

Re: [NTG-context] notes on columnset typesetting (not only about)

2006-05-25 Thread batela
Many thanks for sharing your env file. I'm trying to use that making
some projects and components files. But every-time I run texexec I
found a error message. For fixing that I will need to include the files
vz-cont.tex and vg05-general.

Did you can provide me some complete example of your work?

thanks a lot

Jorge

 Thank you very much!

 Next text can show, what is in present ConTeXt (or a bit older one)
 possible and what is still problematic.

 Firstly, let us show some examples:
 - transparency frames
ftp://cmp.felk.cvut.cz/pub/cmp/users/zyka/vg-ex/vg05-ex-body1.pdf
 - two columnsets + marginals + figures + balancing
ftp://cmp.felk.cvut.cz/pub/cmp/users/zyka/vg-ex/vg05-ex-body2.pdf
 - two columnsets + page float
ftp://cmp.felk.cvut.cz/pub/cmp/users/zyka/vg-ex/vg05-ex-body3.pdf
 - three columnsets + floats
ftp://cmp.felk.cvut.cz/pub/cmp/users/zyka/vg-ex/vg05-ex-encyk.pdf
 - content
ftp://cmp.felk.cvut.cz/pub/cmp/users/zyka/vg-ex/vg05-ex-content.pdf
 - index

 Legend for comming comments:
+ pros
- cons
? dreaming about new feature
! attention
= my (perhaps suboptimal) solution
* note

 Comments:
 grid
+ very powerfull and working support
+ works gracefully with columnsets and floats
* avoiding orphans and widows was done manually by:
  = enlarging/decreasing figures
  = adding/removing (half)blank lines around heads
? if we want to do avoiding orphans and widows automatically,
  we would probably need the glue with DISCRETE STEP of
  stretch/shrink.
  Then we can say e.g.
\let\bl=\baselineskip
\setuphead
  [section]
  [before=\vskip1\bl plus1\bl withstep1\bl]
  to get vertical space before section head exactly 1 OR 2
  \baselineskip height.
  Another solution with stepwise box:
\vbox to2\bl plus2\bl withstep1\bl{\vfil heading \vfil}
! the only problem was in the table of contents + columns;
  from the first line there was a small shift between columns;
  perhaps \splittopskip? but setting it to large enough value
  does not solve it.

 columnsets
+ very nice feature, really;
  after Hans improvement seems that some floats soes not dissappered
 now, but need to be carefull
+ floats insertion with specifying place
  ? for top float: automatically setting \placeongrid[{broad,high}]
for bottom float \placeongrid[{broad,low}]
to be vertically align with text on the rest of column(s)
* balancing: only manually by setting:
 \setupcolumnsetlines[columnset_id][columnset_page][column][line]
  ! Not so painful if it not occures next: If there are many
 floats near balancing place they sometimes disappear or cause ignoring
 balancing - even if they can fit on the place.
  ? understand that automatical balancing with floats is extremly
 difficult
* page floats: big improvements during the work.
  ! running marginal text continue through the page with only float
  = so you have to manually insert blank vertical margin on such
 place
* header footers: Hans did a new column marking:
 \getmarking[marking_id][column][last/first].
  ! There are some problems [perhaps with expansion (different
 counter number and text)] if marking goes between two columnsets
 (framed
 chapters cross two cols in examples).
  = found acceptable hack but need more ivestigation on small
 examples for cleaning.

 metapost inclusion
+ the most powerful, smooth and stable part of ConTeXt in my opinion
 (see random frames, circles with transparent graphics, lines with color
 shading)
= if you have many (over 1024!) shadings (- MP specials) do
  \settrue \manyMPspecials

 index (register)
+ nice possibility to differentiate several groups (here 8 from
 which
 4 have different visual marking of page number, see index example)
- sorting: until this spring there was no satisfied backround for
 Czech sorting in newtexutil.rb till this spring.
  = I did dirty reimplementation of old texutil.pl for doing so
  * I have to have a look for new sorting now.
- coupling: page numbers with group preserving (see example)
  = also in texutil.pl reimplementation

 regime
* my great discovery was that the regime IS
\enableregime{latin2} % correct
  and NOT
\enableregime{il2} % incorrect!

 pseudo-small caps
= http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Pseudo_Small_Caps

 ...

 I provide the environment files (design definition) in case of
 somebody's interest. But suddenly
