Perl may not be the most enjoyable language around, but it's not like he has to actually learn it to effectively use MRTG. MRTG is already built and just needs to be pointed at his assets. No need to pull in another language that might not be known or heavily used to reinvent a working wheel...

ASB, You have sent me information on setting up MRTG and Perl to get stats from my switches in the past. Can you send me some again? David, Are you looking to setup something and forget about it? If not, I can't stress my own opinion harder than to say Perl is a dead, very ugly language.
