Hi guys, Yes, I know this is flame bait. Assuming adequate CPU power, is there any known reason why I couldn't installed Outlook 2007 on a server? It would either be a W2k3 Server domain controller, or a W2k Server box (non-dc) running Exchange 2003 Enterprise. I'm leaning toward putting

Are you looking to keep it running 24/7 to do rules that are client-side only? The rules setup on the mailbox that are server-side do not require the client to be running to process. The rules you create will be marked as Client Only in your rules list after you create the rule if they are not

I would highly recomend against either. You should not be checking mail on a DC. and outlook should not be installed on an exchange server becuase of the mapi.dll. If I were you and needed outlook to be running all the time I would create a VM or get a old workstation. On Mon, Jul 13, 2009 at

Flawlessly? If your idea of Flawless is a crash-consistent copy of the disc... All kinds of ways to do this depending on your hardware. Some options I use/have used are scripts that shutdown the vm, snapped the store/rdm/etc then restarted the vm which gave me infinite time to backup the image.

I think it's ESX 3.5 update 2 where there is a VSS service embedded in the VMware tools. If you enable that feature in the tools you can 'disable' VSS in vRanger and have the one from the tools do the VSS work for you. Assuming of course you haven't enabled the disable guest quiescing option.
