That's how my setup was, and when my internet connection failed I'd have problems. So now I have DNS set up internally too, even if it's only the 3rd option.

I think what they're trying to say is it's difficult to query each machine, get the shares, and then replace them. You might end up spending more time trying to create a sophisticated script than just trying to standardize using, for example,
