John, trust me, have your PC or at least one PC with all your management tools
and comfort zone on a UPS. It results in a lot less running around like a
headless chicken in the event of a power failure.

which I always connect to separate UPSs. So if one UPS exhibits this behavior,
the equipment will stay up and running.
I realize this only addresses the symptom and not the root cause, but it might
help.
