[nysbirds-l] FW: [Ontbirds] Mew Gull, Queenston, Niagara River - Saturday

2010-01-02 Thread Willie D'Anna and Betsy Potter
I am not exactly sure where this is but I know it is below the escarpment and perhaps 3/4 mile north of the roosting rocks, where we had the bird yesterday. If it continues to move around to such a degree, it could prove difficult to find. The observers below were looking from the Ontario side.

[nysbirds-l] Harlequin Duck

2010-01-02 Thread ROBERT ADAMO
While taking part in the Orient CBC this AM (had family obligation in the PM), Bob Gerdts and I found an adult drake, along the East Marion Causeway, Suffolk Co. We had a single, adult C. Eider there also. Cheers, B -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME

[nysbirds-l] Niagara River Mew Gull, probably not "Common Gull"

I think this bird is the North American race, not the European race known as "Common Gull". This is based on the unmarked bill and the smudgy head, neck, and chest streaking. Photos taken by Jean Iron can be seen here: http://www.jeaniron.ca/2010/mewgull.htm Good birding! Willie
