of bird walks by visiting Jones Beach and Point Lookout, Nassau County. For
the day we saw a total of 42 species. There

Dyckman St. & 10th Avenue across the island from Fort Tryon Park.

Hello All. During my Cornell/Suffolk County Parks Walk this morning
we,[ Dick Belanger, Rich Kaskan, Joe Lynch and I ], had a FOS Dark Phased
Rough Legged Hawk that passed us at the entrance to the trailer park. It
spun and hovered at the western end of the parking lot before heading over
Fall birding at NYBG was spectacular today. Highlights include: 2 Eastern
Bluebirds, Least Flycatcher, Eastern Phoebe, 2 Winter Wrens, Brown Creeper,
many Hermit Thrush, Wood Thrush, Kinglets, and 2 mature yellow bellied
sapsuckers. At Twin Lakes in NYBG; American Coot, Great Blue Heron and
Echoing Will Raup's call for patience;
I'd underdressed, and by 1115 was uncomfortable, so I resolved to
drive off for a while and return later. I chose to exit via the
launching ramp complex. I turned into it, and there was the Dove! I
stopped my van on the shoulder, and stepped back
The COMMON GROUND DOVE at Captree State Park (Suffolk Co.), which was
elusive for much of today, made a very nice showing from at least 3:00pm to
3:30pm, which coincided with my arrival. The bird, which often appeared
skittish, was flushed several times but traveled between the following three

Spent a beautiful morning doing an extensive walk around the Cedar and
Overlook beach parks (town of Babylon, Suffolk Co.) from 8:45-11:30,
followed by brief visits to Oak Beach Road, Captree S.P., and the marsh
north of Captree Island.
At Cedar/Overlook I walked the length of the tidal overwash
We birded West End this morning (Saturday), first attempting to do a walking
loop from WE2 down to the TR Nature Center and back. The tide was high and
ocean water was washing over the beach into the low lying areas in the back
dunes, so we were unable to complete the loop. We walked back to
The western kingbird was present at Captree State Park this morning.
We saw it around 9 AM in the area east of the toll booths and it was
still present but at the overlook parking lot when we left around 10
AM. Moves around a bit. We had 3 snow buntings on the snow fence at
the eastern
11am.
Rich Guthrie just called to say the Common Ground Dove made another appearance
after not been seen for a long time. It was seen on the grassy area near the
Upper Parking lot at Captree. It has since retreated again.
So it appears some patience is needed, but the bird is still there.
The 1st-basic BLACK-HEADED GULL continues at Mecox Inlet (Watermill, Suffolk)
along w Lesser BB Gull and Snow Bunting. The 5 CATTLE EGRET also continue at
nearby Mecox Bay Dairy.
