This evening I went for a kayak trip and found a Least Tern colony in
Flanders Bay on a spit of land that is inaccessible via foot. There looked
to be about 25 pairs of birds occupying the bit of land. I had noticed a
plover yesterday nearby so it is possible that there are plovers breeding

I wanted to pass along that Chris Vogel and Michael Force had a
Yellow-headed Blackbird come aboard the NOAA ship Bigelow about 70
miles south of Montauk on June 6th. The bird stayed at least until
June 7th.

Part of the bank shows significant use by ATV's. Stringent
enforcement of the code banning them would seem appropriate here.

The issue of the Swallows was brought up to the property owner/developer
this morning and he said that he wil refrain from construction activities in
those areas until nesting has been completed. I presume that under the
Migratory Bird Act these nests would be covered - anyone with more
