Following some sage advice from Sean Sime regarding the second high tide of the day being more productive for gulls loafing on the beach, I revisited Coney Island this afternoon in search of the Gray-hooded Gull. I immediately noticed that there were way more LAGU than had been present this

I got to Coney Island Beach late this afternoon, just in time to get looks and photographs of the Gray-hooded Gull along with Shane Blodgett and Isaac Grant. Here is a link to some photos that I posted on my blog -

I took a look a the Gray-headed Gull photo and do agree with Doug's id.  I am familiar with them having seen them in their native habitat several times and it does look 100% like a Gray-headed.  Great find.  Hope it's refound. Andrew  Andrew v. F. Block Consulting Naturalist/Wildlife Biologist

Based on communication with Doug last night, I searched unsuccessfully for the possible Grey-headed Gull from 6:45 to 8:15 this morning. I rode the entire length of the boardwalk on my bike. Coney Island beach is a favorite roosting spots for gulls at high tide-which was at 7:15- but I was
