We took a trip to the Setauket Mill Pond this afternoon but unfortunately did
not find the Black-headed Gull on the pond with the Ring-billed Gulls.
A trip to the Old Field Lighthouse yielded a first winter BONAPARTE'S GULL
flying around not too far offshore. We didn't see the Red-necked
Twenty-six people joined the bird walk at NYBG today. Highlights include 6
Field Sparrows, 2 Great Horned Owls, 1 House Finch, 3 Red winged Blackbirds and:
Swamp sparrow
Song sparrow
White throated sparrows
Mourning Doves 60+
American Goldfinch 25+
Cardinals
Mockingbirds 2
Blue Jays
Chickadee
A Red-Necked Grebe was feeding close to shore this morning in Gardiner's Bay
in East Hampton.
The grebe was near a weir in the bay at the beach close to Fresh Pond in
Amagansett.

Despite the continued lack of swallows, Dave Tetlow & I had an enjoyable
day at Hamlin Beach with a number of highlights. There was a good movement
of RED-THROATED LOONS for most of the morning - our final tally was 1,012
for the day, with about 60% of these were during the first couple of hours
