Thanks again to Steve Walter for the updates to the map, which will be
useful for those not familiar with the park.
Another terrific bird for the Alley Pond Park, for Queens and for Eric

As a retired Lilco/Brooklyn Union/Marketspan/Keyspan employee with 42 years, 8

asked to help out with the "Sandy" crisis, by acting as a crew guide to an out
of state contractor, here to help LIPA/National Grid

N = the so called Nutmeg Meadow, where most of the recent Virginia's Warbler
sightings have been (although apparently none the last two days). The 76th
Avenue lot provides the closest parking. Also worth noting is
Went out to Marratooka Lake in Mattituck today to look for the Barnacle Goose
that has been consistantly reported there lately. When I arrived around 2:15pm,
there weren't very many geese on the pond (not nearly as many as had been
reported before), and during the 45 minutes that I was there,
The Painted Bunting was seen again from about 4:10 PM until after 4:40 PM
(after sunset), in almost the same place where Eric Miller had last seen it.
After 10 or so minutes of it being difficult to see in the thick ground-level
vegetation, it came into slightly better view and then was seen
I had a report from Thursday that there were very few gulls on the Niagara
River. This morning, however, Betsy and I arrived at the Adam Beck overlook
in Ontario (the power plants) to find an astounding number of gulls, mostly
Herrings but lots of Ring-billeds also, and a handful of Bonapartes.
To all,
For those who are working with eBird.org to upload checklists I've compiled
a list of recent hotspot additions to the NYC Area which includes all of
NYC, Long Island & Westchester.

A hotspot is a location that is visible to
(Unless there was a late development) the Painted Bunting was last seen just
before 3:00, when it flew into shady underbrush at the edge of a stand of
evergreens or hollies. I'll update my Alley Park map tonight to show the
location.
