dash for it, I trekked the 45 minutes to Sampson State Park, arriving shortly

Lot's of birds, but all the usual suspects - no Virginia's Warbler, Painted
Bunting, Rusty Blackbirds or Crossbills.

Saturday was a challenging day on the Niagara River (Niagara Falls NY & ON, and
Lewiston, NY - Niagara County), with intermittent rain and fog hampering
visibility, especially late in the day when you couldn't even see the water at
Adam Beck. We started on the American side in Lewiston,

December 12th. The field trip is almost full but the workshop is free and open
to the public.

trip in Canton, New York on the weekend of
The basic-plumaged adult BLACK-HEADED GULL reported yesterday by Sara Burch
was still present today between 12:20pm and 1:00pm, in the same location.
I found the bird sitting on the water, ~100 feet downstream of the overlook
at the end of the trail that parallels the creek. The gull lifted off
Brown Pelican, Montauk Inlet.
Male Eurasian Wigeon, not quite in breeding plumage, Rita's Stable, Montauk.
Greater White-fronted Goose, Further Lane, Easthampton.
20 White-winged Crossbills, East Lake Drive, Montauk.
2 Red Crossbills, Montauk Point and another 5, Kirk Park, Montauk.

5 Snow Geese with 200+ Canada Geese at 2:15pm. Sound ave in Jamesport, south
side, across from Landscape Adventure in rye grass behind grey barn. Blue
phase. Scope needed.

The purpose of this last minute walk was to find a Barred Owl. We located one
within five minutes of searching and a short while later had another.
Twelve birders attended.
Other birds seen:
Horned Grebe
Echoing Will's post, there has been a Cape May Warbler across the street from
my house for the past 2 days. It is between 15 fort Hill Circle and the
apartment building. It has been very loyal to an Elm Tree.
This is on Staten Island and is close to the ferry for those that may be
interested.

TOWNSEND SOLITAIRE at Sampson State Park. Sampson State Park is located on the
EAST side of Seneca Lake, about 1/3 of the way South of Geneva or 2/3 of the
way North of Watkins Glen, accessible off Route 96A. The bird was

in Albany, that she had a strongly patterned warbler that landed on her window
sill. Her description strongly suggested Yellow-throated Warbler, although
her description also fit a Blackburnian Warbler. It was
