Ideally I would've tried for the Northern Shrike and other things at Jones
Beach today, but sadly couldn't make the 10 minute trip there (don't ask
why). As a consolation, I decided to walk up and down my street for about
45 minutes. Within a 2 block distance I saw a Fox Sparrow,
To give anyone looking for the Shrike a clear idea of how widely it may wander,
I saw it at ~10:15 while standing at approximately these coordinates: 40°
35.403' N 73° 33.688' W. It flew in from the east (Coast Guard station),
landed briefly atop a bare shrub, then flew west ~100 ft. into a
I devoted much of my field effort today to getting better pictures of the
Northern Shrike. So that's one less person chasing Snowy Owls. They're not
all that interesting, anyway. They just sit there. Oh wait. They fly around
every time someone gets too close. But back to the shrike. Thanks to

Two Tundra Swans continue at Hook Pond eventually snoozing in the light
rain. Then a mad dash.
At West End 2 around 12:30 saw the N. Shrike hovering (kiting?) over the
trees north end of parking lot to then perch conspicuously on a tree top.a
bold and handsome bird but undoubtedly the terror of
The Snowy Owl at Floyd Bennett Field is being seen now by a bunch of birders.
Remember that the fields are off limits so the owl must be viewed from the road.

was an adult Red-necked Grebe off of Valley Grove on Eaton's Neck.
Coordinates are 40° 56.152', -73° 24.185'

scared of him then he has not done anything wrong except he has approached

initially found it on Huntington Bay, which is the body of water on the
west side of the peninsula. It was a few hundred feet offshore, north of
the red lifeguard building. Coordinates for Hobart are 40° 55.669', -73°
