Birded the high tide. Numbers up quite a bit from last week. Highlight was an adult Long-billed Dowitcher at the north end. 3 Pectoral Sandpipers 13 Stilt Sandpipers 1 western Willet 214 Short-billed Dowitchers (mostly all juveniles) 96 Black-bellied Plover 2 White-rumps Conservative count of

While doing some site inspections I observed the following birds: 6 glossy ibis flying over S Country Rd in E. Patchogue, fledgling wrens (unknown species) in Brookhaven hamlet, a fledgling Cooper's hawk was flying around and vocalizing at the post morrow nature preserve in Brookhaven hamlet

Hi Gina The bitterns are typically fairly visible at DeKorte. There are several fledglings and HY birds still there that have yet to disperse. WIth a bit of patience it's usually possible to see several. There have been double digit counts and regularly 4 or 5 visible. cheers Dom
