Tom Burke, Andrew Baksh and I spent 5 hours on the flats today. Our
highlights were two Arctic Terns, one first summer and one second summer.
There were four Roseate Terns as well, with a smattering of expected
shorebirds including the lingering "Western" Willet. Ocean watching was

Relative to recent Shearwater posts, belatedly from Saturday the
composition of Shearwaters off Dune Road was similar to the prior
Wednesday. At Cupsogue County Park there were at least six Cory's
Shearwaters milling about in the feeding flocks of Terns and Gulls, and one

lot and the Coast Guard station a little before 3 pm. Common Redpolls
-about a half dozen, the previously reported Lapland Longspurs 5 + along

This morning roosting among the Canada Geese on partially frozen lake were
the continuing Barnacle Goose, four Greater White-fronted Geese, one
Cackling Goose and 3 Snow Geese. Also present were 3 Redheads, and a drake
Common Merganser. The birds were still present when we left at 9 am.

The Pink-footed Goose has just flown in, joining a large flock of Canada
Geese arriving over the past hour. Previously a Greater White-fronted Goose
had come in with another flock. The flock is located on the east side of
Doctor's Path, a quarter mile south of Sound Ave.
