Thank you for the heads-up. I left about 2 AM on 9/8/09 and saw the Sand Plover
spcies from about 9:30 AM - 10:15 AM along with about 7 others. Per the
directions in the postings to the Days Inn in Stauton VA it was an easy find.

Dune Road this afternoon at dead low tide. The Summer crowds were gone and
there were no tolls to park. We birded looking north at the bay islands and

This evening around 5:30pm, two Common Nighthawks were hunting in the open
field on the border of East Northport and Commack on Clay Pitts Road. The
birds caught my attention when I was driving home and looked into the field
with two birds that had the distinct nighthawk flight and behavior.

Although there weren't many shorebirds, there was a nice variety, including the
continuing avocets and Wilson's phalarope.?I observed?17 species?from 11 AM to
2 PM, most of these in the north end of the East Pond.

Today JulIe and I started our 3-4 day vacation/excursion/cone crop survey
of the Adirondacks. At Ferd's Bog, which has
never been that productive for me, was a family group of 1 female and 2
young THREE-TOED WOODPECKERS!! It was
awesome and a lifer for Julie. They were about halfway

Northern Wheatear was again reported early Tuesday, 8 September - but
also note the caution on local construction work resuming around there.
