Joe Giunta and I (Sy Schiff) followed up on Dave Klauber's report, arriving at
Pittsburgh Ave. about 2:15. At the pond we saw a Great Blue Heron and Belted
Kingfisher .Walking north to where we believed was the spot, we heard a very
vocal WINTER WREN across the
First in Maintenance Meadow flying from one side to the other and
finally to his usual spot east of the Maintenance bathrooms. I saw him
with absent intervals from 2 to 3:40 PM.

inlet and through the Fisherman's Parking Area. Birding highlights included 250
Common Eider on the east side of the jetty, in addition to seven Purple

Danny Melore, Alan Goodman, and I paid a brief visit to Jones Beach West End
today from about 11 AM until about 12:30 PM. Highlights were 22 American
Pipits
feeding in the median and shoulders between the Coast Guard Station and the
nature center, the previously-reported Snow Goose mixed in
Just a little while ago I had marvelous views of a Lark Sparrow feeding with a
flock of 4 Chipping, 2 Field, 4 Tree, and several Song Sparrows and Juncos.
The bird was foraging in the grass immediatly west of the entrance to the
Calverton Grasslands by the way of Grumman Blvd. The entire
