In the early morning, the Varied Thrush was not found in the "usual"
areas, nor were there any birds there, almost all of the flock
activity being a bit south, by up to several hundred yards. All

Hi All, During yesterday's Orient Count Rob McGinness and John Brush
Sr. had a Townsend's Solitaire in a field off of Albertson Lane in
Greenport. The bird was feeding on bittersweet along with a Catbird and a
flock of eleven Rusty Blackbirds. The bird has not been seen today. The

Toodling around Central Park today was quite productive. Almost immediately
upon entrance to the park, a YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER flew through the Upper Lobe,
briefly landing before carrying on, calling the whole time.
The continuing VARIED THRUSH was seen by myself and others at the
This morning's fog made birding difficult to impossible in many places, but
along Dune Road, in Quogue, I saw 2 Clapper Rails and one American Bittern
(this thanks to Aaron from Westhampton). An unusually bright Orange-crowned
Warbler was near the end of Triton Lane, off Dune Road.

Forty-four species were reported this week.
BLACK VULTURE: Hudson 12/26 (5).
ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK: Guilderland 12/23.
For anyone birding eastern Suffolk, there was a large flock of American
Pipits at Fresh Pond in Amagansett yesterday afternoon.
We had run into a couple further west who told us there were Pipits in the
parking lot at Fresh Pond. When we arrived -- no Pipits-- only a flock of
Juncos.
After
The previously reported Glaucous Gull was north of the Ferry on the
rocks close to the Lighthouse with other gulls and all the common sea
ducks and a Great Cormorant at noon yesterday. It lifted after 15
minutes and dissapeared south of the Ferry Slip. I was unable to find
Barrows Goldeneye.
