I spent a good 4 hours in the morning starting from around 7:30 a.m. birding
Jamaica Bay, both East and West ponds and the North and South Gardens.
Egrets and Herons, including Tri-colored continue in good numbers. On the
West Pond shores, I had *5 Pectoral Sandpipers*; an increase of 3 from the

The lunch hour tour was not so active so when I read the email from Matthew
on the bonanza of birds he found after I left I made a point to revisit the
Bryant Park- 41st between 5th and 6th

At the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx, the male Prothonotary
Warbler continued today at the larger of the "twin lakes", actually a
small, lightly vegetated (as of now) pond, at the NW corner of the
garden. Proceed to your farthest left along the perimeter
8Wild Turkey, all males, practicing display techniques. :)
10 Chipping sparrows, mono flock, field setting.
1 Black vulture, roosting atop an old silo.

Central Park was quite fruitful this morning. Two of the main highlights were
icterids, the best of which was a singing male BOAT-TAILED GRACKLE at Fort
Clinton. (The structure looking over the south end of the meer) Presumably the
same individual seen a week or so ago, voice was the first cue

The tide was very high this morning, It looked especially eerie with the dense
fog covering the flooded marsh and only tops of vegetation visible.
None-the-less, there was a full set of recent arrivals, but restricted to
wetland birds.
Tuesday, 19 April, 2011 - Central Park, Manhattan, N.Y. City
The female Varied Thrush was still present in Central Park, Manhattan,
N.Y. City Tues. afternoon, seen in the trees & shrubs just north of
the East 79 Street transverse road, somewhat south of the south/SW
wall of the
