Today, on my 4th drive into Alley Pond Park from Riverhead, I saw the
Virginia's Warbler! Last night, after reading the posts by John Gluth, Eric
Miller and Steve Walter, I decided to buck the old saw "3 strikes and you're
out" and try again. After checking the Little Alley Pond area, I

At around 3pm today Peter Colen and I spotted a male EVENING GROSBEAK in
Prospect Park. The bird was feeding on the seeds in a large tuliptree in the
Ravine adjacent two large conifers. While watching the grosbeak we also had a
flyover of a small flock of WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS. One other
Gary Strauss just called to report the Virginia's Warbler at Alley Pond.
His message indicates that the bird was somewhere near an opposite wall
along the slope near the highway.

All,
Two other birders and I (sorry, didn't catch the names) saw the two geese at
van Cortlandt Park from around 1:00 - 1:30. We were also treated to an adult
Peregrine soaring quite low overhead.
Access is very easy: they are in the large flock of Canadas seen on the

Greetings All!
Rich Guthrie confirmed a WESTERN TANAGER coming to a feeder at 63 Castle Point
Road in Athens, Greene County (about 25 miles south of Albany, or due west of
Hudson, NY). The bird has been very active coming to a feeder and has been
present for a couple of days now.

Last night, Eric Miller and I discussed the new location of the Virginia's
Warbler and Eric shared that he also had a Clay-colored Sparrow near the
area. This is another good bird for Alley Pond Park, so keep yours eyes
out for this bird as well.
In addition, Eric indicated that he along with
Yesterday, work took me to Dutchess County and afforded me about 20
minutes to scan the waterfront in Beacon, Dutchess County. At about 3:30 PM, I
had 3 juvenile Iceland Gulls. All were between the rocks at the end of Beacon
Waterfront Park and the ramp for the Newburgh-Beacon Ferry.
The Barnacle Goose at Van Cortlandt Park continues on the parade ground.
There's a Cackling Goose in the flock as well.
Good birding,
Corey Finger
