Point. I met Richard Kaskan on the trail, and we birded together, until he
had to leave, because as he put it..."I'm still a working stiff" !
Fortunately for me, no more than 5 minutes before that happened, Richard
I may have missed an earlier report - but a Marsh Wren was singing in the Lower
Lobe Monday evening before sundown.

In looking at the list of warbler species seen thus far this year in
Central Park (Manhattan, N.Y. City) the only 2 which occur annually
that have yet to be reported are: Golden-winged, and Connecticut. The
former has declined greatly in migration, and the latter is very rare
in spring in

Lots of construction going on. The entrance to the park from Peninsula Blvd is
closed. Exit 18 West on the Southern State Pkwy is being rebuilt and you may
or may not be able to exit there. The Exit East is OK. Eagle Ave through the

A slow morning at Sunken Meadow State Park picked up around 9:00AM when a small
wave of warblers came through. Although we did not find any of the uncommon
warbler species, we still tallied seventeen warbler species, a good total for
western Suffolk County. We eventually totaled eight-six
My overall impression of birding today is that whilst numbers are down from
the weekend, there are plenty of great birds to see. I started at the Pool
where I saw a Solitary Sandpiper on the grass, and where there were
surprising numbers of Northern Waterthrush. I saw at least 6 in the first

Thanks for the earlier post. I saw the Lincoln’s sparrow at Tanner Spring
along with sensational looks at a black billed cuckoo, two scarlet tanagers, a
Canada , veery and swainson’s thrush among a few more common migrants.

Half-an-hour ago Dawn Hannay reported a Prothonotary warbler at the Point.
Last word is that it flew towards the Oven.
A little longer ago Dawn reported a Yellow-breasted Chat at the Maintenance
Meadow (well, actually she only wrote "chat", but I am assuming that the
bird in question is
Near W85th St entrance to Central Park by rocks in meadow east of playground.
Often visible from footpath. I saw 2 here this morning but only 1 now. Didn't
post earlier b/c I thought they flew off.

Chris sent a second text alert this morning in which he reported
I led my twice-weekly bird walk in Bryant Park (that little patch of green
between 40th & 42nd St from 5th to 6th Ave) this morning from 8-9am. Things
are really picking up there!
Most of the activity was high in the treetops, with a few birds skulking in
flower beds and various corners.

Seven Wood Duck ducklings were on the Upper Pool of Brooklyn's Prospect Park
this weekend. This species has been seen here regularly during migration
seasons, especially in the fall, but this seems to have been the first time
they've reproduced here in a long time.
