Thanks to Keith Cashman, I hightailed it out to the sod fields on Mill La.,
just n/o Sound Ave and saw the single A.Golden Plover he found earlier
today. The bird, still in mostly alternate plumage, was in the e/s field,
along with 14 Killdeers, with 2 more Killdeers in the w/s field. While
Sue and I went to Heckscher State Park this evening to see if any Nighthawks
were migrating through the park. We failed to see any nighthawks, but did
witness an impressive movement of Eastern Kingbirds. From the Field 7 parking
lot we recorded two hundred and twenty-three birds moving south in
Marine Nature Study Area 25 Aug
A pair of COMMON RAVENS flew over head circling as they drifted east. A CLAPPER
RAIL chick was seen briefly and a MARSH WREN was chattering in the phragmites
to the west of the office.
The resident WILLETS are now mostly gone. Seen were a single, silent adult
