[nysbirds-l] Red Phalarope Continues
After hanging around for 2 hours and missing the bird yesterday morning, I deserted my wife for breakfast today to try again. This time it paid off, as the bird was there and was close to the edge of the pond west of the bird blind. [nysbirds-l] Red Phalarope Continues
An amazing assemblage of shorebirds were present on Skinner Lane in Orange County this morning the most notable of which was the continuing RED PHALAROPE. At least a dozen birders viewed the bird during the hour and half I was present this morning. I had a total of sixteen species this morning, fourteen of which were on Skinner. Highlights included American Golden Plover - 20 Pectoral Sandpiper - 31 White-rumped Sandpiper - 4 Semipalmated Plover - 4 Semipalmated Sandpiper -35 Least Sandpiper - 15 Greater Yellowlegs Lesser Yellowlegs Spotted Sandpiper Short-billed Dowitcher - 4 Wilson's Snipe - 6 Sanderlings - 3 Killdeer - to many to count Farther out in the fields, a Kestrel, Merlin and Harrier flushed large mixed species flocks of shorebirds that may have contained anything. I have added one more pic to my blog, hopefully a better one of the phalarope as well as a BAIRD'S SANDPIPER which I found this morning at Apollo Plaza in Monticello. Great Birding!
