On December 11 there were three Cackling Geese and an Emperor Goose on the
lower Tarrytown Lake, at roughly 41.084088, -73.835863.
Parking is not easy. The road along the north shore is narrow and very busy
with traffic. One good place to park is the lot at 41.082389, -73.830403.

There is a Greater White-fronted Goose, along with two Cackling Geese, at
the pond in Roslyn. This is the pond at the end of the Papermill Road.

Shai Mitra and I are scanning through a huge flock of Canada Geese (several
thousand) along the west side of Rt 105 a little south of the intersection with
Northville Tpk. So far we have one each Richardson's, Blue Goose, White-fronted
and Barnacle, with geese still constantly arriving from the

The Ross' Goose was found roosting on Unqua Lake as I previously reported
around 7:30, but apparently had flown off an hour later. The Barnacle Goose
previously reported in Amityville was not present, nor was the Pink-footed
Goose on Miller's Pond in Smithtown and the adjacent fields.

The birds in your photo are hybrids of barnyard x Canada Geese. Note the
large size (larger than Canada) and heavy build of the birds. The Canada Goose
face pattern is distinct. Pink-footed Geese are smaller than a Canada Goose.
