A dozen or so birders from Orange County and NYC spotted and photographed a pair of Mississippi kites at the parking lot just above the Visitors Center at Sterling Forest SP in Orange Co. First sightings were around 9:00 AM at which time the birds departed and did not return until 3:00 PM. I've
The Scissor-tailed Flycatcher vanished before we got there, and a quick search
by Bob, Sarah, Ken Sue Feustel, Pat, and I did not produce it. There was a
hint of overhead movement east to west, including a very unseasonal Pine

Wilson's Phalaropes have been seen are? I can't exactly tell from Google Maps
where there is access that I could park and view these areas.

I received a message from Ed Becher at about 2:15 this afternoon while he
was with a Black-necked Stilt at Zach's Bay, resting beside an
Oystercatcher. He initially found this bird in one of the shallow ponds within
the Golf
Course area before it flew over to the Bay. I didn't get to chase
While 3 birds does not constitute a mass mortality event, I have been contacted
today by two people with dead Sooty Shearwaters found on the beaches of the New
York Bight. One at Far Rockaway and one on Monmouth Beach NJ. This follows the
moribund bird mentioned by Chase from Robert Moses.
