The female Barrow's Goldeneye continues near the Sore Thumb with her Common
cousins. No eiders in sight and no grebes other than a lone Horned. A nice
consolation prize was the chance to record vocalizing Red-throated Loons. I'd
never heard them call before, even when I've seen individuals in
Common Loon seen mostly way out in center of Reservoir2 Red-necked Grebes - one
close to John Beauchamp & me in SE another further to south west and moving
northward; I went to west side & north; John to east north side. I cdn't pick
it up it may have reversed itself. Grebes move alot and
The black guillemot and iceland gull continue at Lake Montauk. I didn't
find the black-headed or little gull at Ditch Plains, but there were 3
purple sandpipers in with the sanderlings. But the highlight for me was
seeing a bat, presumably a little brown bat, working the insects over a
small pond

The large grebe which was earlier reported to ebird as a Western Grebe is now
thought to be a Clark's Grebe per Tim Lenz and Brad Walker! This appears to be
the First State Record!
