Microsoft has updated its U.S./Canada mapping software. This is a database of all the roads in the U.S. and most of Canada. Version 2002 is, on first look, a fairly significant improvement to the database. In Ottawa, for example, the 2001 edition would not let you cross the Portage Bridge

I've been using a $19.95 package that you can get at most gas station. It is made by Mapart Publishing (www.mapart.com) and is basically a scan of the paper map. The nice thing about it is that it shows all the bike paths and you can measure a route with a few clicks. While it shows several
