Hello, there was an error while saving. Specifically, I saved the file
initially, and when I finished my work and wanted to save it to avoid losing my
progress, it gave me the following message: "You cannot save or create a new
file because the auto-save process is still not finished." Please do something
about this. I really don't want to lose the hours I spent on my drawing.

SUMMARY
In the "Ocular=>Configure Okular=> Accessibility" panel,
field "text-to-speech engine" shows "speechd"
In the "Text-to-speech voice" item below it, the only available voice is
"kal16"

Running the "$ flite -lv" Loinux command shows
"Voices available: kal awb_time kal16 awb rms slt"

I have these lines:
AddModule "flite" "sd_flite" "flite.conf"
DefaultModule "sd_flite"
in my two "speechd.conf" files which are located in directories
  "/etc/speech-dispatcher/shared " and
  "/usr/share/speech-dispatcher/conf/" .

I should be able to see in the Okular configuration screen all Flite voices,
not just "kal16".

[okular] [Bug 486856] New: Open CBR rely in external apps, but in Windows are outdated or trial / closed source (Use 7-zip instead there?)

2024-05-10 Thread Lukas ThyWalls
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486856

Bug ID: 486856
Summary: Open CBR rely in external apps, but in Windows are
outdated or trial / closed source (Use 7-zip instead
there?)
Classification: Applications
   Product: okular
   Version: 24.04.80
  Platform: Microsoft Windows
OS: Microsoft Windows
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Comicbook backend
  Assignee: okular-devel@kde.org
  Reporter: thywa...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

I think this is a common issue talked here in other platforms
https://bugs.kde.org/buglist.cgi?bug_status=UNCONFIRMED_status=CONFIRMED_status=ASSIGNED_status=REOPENED_status=RESOLVED_status=NEEDSINFO_status=VERIFIED_status=CLOSED=Comicbook%20backend_id=2709189=okular_format=advanced_desc=CBR_desc_type=allwordssubstr,
but in Windows the issue still is there somehow.

Summarizing, actually if you want to open a CBR file in Okular, it needs Unrar
or The Unarchiver (since https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=339370).

However, for Windows:
- The Unarchiver https://theunarchiver.com/ is a Mac app, closed source, and
their CLI tool (Unar https://theunarchiver.com/command-line) for Windows is
outdated, and I don't know if only with it works or not because I didn't try.
- The only Windows / Free / Open source Unrar i found is from GnuWin32
https://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/unrar.htm which is almost 20 years
old. The other Windows one is RARLAB Unrar what comes bundled with WinRAR,
which is Trial / Closed Source https://www.win-rar.com/download.html
https://www.rarlab.com/download.htm.

So, in Windows, you rely solely on outdated versions or closed source / trial
software.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. In Windows,
2. with Okular 24.04.80,
3. without Unar (Unarchiver Cli Tool), Unrar Free or WinRAR installed,
4. try to open any CBR file.

OBSERVED RESULT

> Could not open file:///E:/ComicBook.cbr.
> Cannot open document, neither unrar nor unarchiver were found.

EXPECTED RESULT

Open it?

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

- Windows 10 PRO 22H2
- Okular 24.04.80

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

- For Windows, maybe it's more common a reliable to use https://7-zip.org/ as
it has a 7z.exe command line tool that supports RAR.

- As it seems Okular uses KArchive, I could test that it reads without anything
else CBZ (Zip) and also CB7 (7-zip)
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=412413, and It should be doing also CBT
(Tar) https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=204195.

- Much better solution could be add a backend option which show a few default
and autodetected built-in options (Unrar, Unar, 7z...) and maybe a custom
option to put a path and command line tool of your preference to deal with the
extraction.

---

Thanks!

PD.: CBR (RAR), CBA (ACE) and other based in closed format are awful...

OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED

  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Comments in PDF files created by latex/xelatex acro/pdfcomment do not display
in Okular, although evince displays them. Such comments are useful to display
acronyms.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Write a TeX file using latex, acro, pdfcomment, that includes acronyms and
pdfcomments.
2. Open it with okular.

OBSERVED RESULT
The acronym pdfcomment is not displayed when I hover the cursor over the
acronym. The mouse cursor changes shape over acronyms, which implies that
Okular identifies the string as an acronym.

EXPECTED RESULT
The acronym pdfcomment is displayed on hover over the acronym.

SUMMARY
I have installed Okular through Flatpak. I am using Slovenian language version.
Since version from 2024-03-12 15:38:44 (Flahub commit:
dd1a5b8b88fe55a569a9e38a3855f945be8d9ef46cb42c54884af55892828c39), I can not
digitally sign PDF's anymore.

Reason: it keeps asking me for certificate password. I don't have one, but when
I press enter (and leave input fields empty), it keeps asking for password.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Select Tools- Digitally sign
2. Select certificate and background image
3. Okular asks for a certificate password (if exists)
4. Press enter (because I do not have a password), it keeps asking again...

OBSERVED RESULT
Cannot digitally sign PDF, because it keeps asking for (nonexistent) password

EXPECTED RESULT
Should be able to move forward with blank password?

SUMMARY
All bookmarks for a particular pdf are lost if: (1) File is renamed; (2) file
is moved to another folder or directory.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add a bookmark and save file.
2. Change filename.
3. Re-open file and all bookmarks have disappeared.

OBSERVED RESULT
Bookmarks disappear after re-naming pdf file.

EXPECTED RESULT

SUMMARY
When Okular is already open, it's not possible to open other pdf files from
internet explorer.
A warning appears:
"The specified device, path, or file could not be accessed. It is likely that
you do not have the necessary permissions."

But, if I drag and drop that file, from internet explorer on the opened okular
window, the pdf is loaded and displayed.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. double click on a pdf file in internet explorer (or on desktop too) (or use
right click contestual menu to use open command)
2. okular is opened and the pdf is displayed
3. as in point 1, try to open another pdf file.

OBSERVED RESULT
4. the warning window is displayed, and okular doesn't load that file.

EXPECTED RESULT
5. a new okular window (or tab??) is opened with the second pdf file

Henry Gebhardt changed:

 CC||hsggebha...@gmail.com

(In reply to Philip from comment #6)
> I find Evince's link preview well done.
Thank you! As the main person who implemented Evince's link preview behavior
(https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evince/-/commit/f95c24b96de0024f5888e1b11f787ad1432e2263)
(just the behavior, not the previews themselves), I can explain the
considerations that went into Evince's link previews, as well as common
complaints.

In order to be useful, Evince's link previews need to have several
characteristics. First, the text in the link preview needs to be readable (as
already mentioned in the description of this bug). Second, the size of the
popup needs to span the entire width of the page, because links only contain a
single (x,y) coordinate, and the convention where the content is relative to
the link destination (x,y) differs for different types of links (see below).
Third, vertically the link preview is at most 1/3 the size of the main view, so
that the preview doesn't dominate the view, while still showing sufficiently
much around that (x,y) destination.

fancy-previews would be awesome (as mentioned in Comment #2), but are not used
much, so cannot be depended upon.

As to what should be shown inside the preview, I did a survey of the different
kinds of links I saw in papers on https://arxiv.org/, many of which have two
columns of text side-by-side on each page. The different types of links are:

* Section headers, bibliographic references, footnotes, and tables have the
link point to the top left of the content they are pointing to.

* Equations have the link point to the equation number that is printed to the
right of the actual equation.

* Links to figures usually point to the caption below the figure.

Evince does not try to heuristically fix incorrectly set links (e.g., the
problem of Def 2 pointing to Def 4 mentioned in one of the duplicate bugs).

The upshot is that the best destination area to show is such that the link
points to just a little above the center of the previewed area.

I did a (more detailed but somewhat shitty) writeup of all this at
http://www.2-node-supercomputer.net/2020/blog-20201114-evince-link-preview.html
(sorry no https). Though the most concise explanation is in the previously
linked Evince commit
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evince/-/commit/f95c24b96de0024f5888e1b11f787ad1432e2263.

A common complaint about Evince's behavior is that the link preview is
automatically triggered when hovering over a link, and this can get annoying
when there are many links on the page. Evince maintainers are opposed to adding
a configuration option to disable opening a preview. Alternatively, one could
also imagine showing the link previews only on some other action, say, when
clicking the link (and double click could follow the link - this has not been
explored further, just thinking out loud).

PDFs with incorrectly set links have also occasionally led to bug reports on
Evince.

Some people also don't like the aethestics of a preview spanning the entire
width. However, this is crucial to get all the aforementioned link types
displayed sufficiently, especially for papers with two columns.

I hope this helps in deciding to add link previews to Okular, perhaps with a
different take on them, perhaps similar to Evince. They are immensely useful
when reading papers with lots of equations and references, so I do hope someone
will find the time to implement them in Okular, and I am willing to help where
I can as I am enjoying Plasma 6 quite a bit.

Thank you for your bug report!

Debian advises users to not submit bugs upstream
(https://www.debian.org/Bugs/Reporting), as this version of the KDE software is
out of support from KDE, and so it's possible that the bug exists only in
Debian at this point.
Could you report the bug to Debian using the report bug utility
(https://packages.debian.org/stable/utils/reportbug)? If necessary, the
maintainer of the package will forward the bug upstream.

Thanks for understanding!

[okular] [Bug 486077] New: Okular window does not activate when opening pdf file from nautilus ("Files" application in Gnome)

Summary: Okular window does not activate when opening pdf file
from nautilus ("Files" application in Gnome)

   Product: okular
   Version: 22.12.3

SUMMARY
I recently switched from Debian 11 to Debian 12, and this is one of the quirks.
I open pdf files from my file browser constantly for work, and now I have to
alt+tab to select the Okular window after double clicking a file to open. When
I'm using two screens this is really frustrating, because I'll open a file,
glance, and close the tab with ctrl+W but my file browser closes, because the
Okular window didn't become the active window like it normally does. I can't
find any settings to change, nor any web searches that address this. It might
be a Nautilus issue, but when I open other files such as a text file, my text
editor window automatically comes up front and is the active window. Same for
other files types. And if I right click a pdf and open with Document Viewer or
Google Chrome, those applications become active and come to the front of all my
windows. It's just Okular that seems to have this problem.

a different style.

This is *not* the default/suggest kde/okular style.

A person already told me that setting. But disabling all popups likely causes
problems? What if there is something actually useful?

I think making the reload notification a small icon instead would be a better
fix. Clicking on the icon could reveal the info.

This is a wishlist for now.

okular reloading a PDF, causing flicker in the UI

When using Okular in auto-reload mode (for previewing all sorts of things), it
is important that it is smooth and changes as little UI stuff as possible.

This otherwise causes flicker effects.

Currently when reloading:

1. render pdf
2. dont render pdf, blank screen, okular icon is displayed instead (why??), the
scroll bar at the right disappears
3. render new pdf

I attach a video of this, using typst in watch mode, creating a PDF. Okular is
only involved in rendering and auto reloading the PDF.

When using Okular to preview stuff like LaTeX, Typst, Markdown etc the Preview
is useful. But it is currently quite unpleasant without a reason.

I can imagine there already is a setting to remove that dialog. making it less
obtrusive, like displaying a small turning circle in the bottom corner, could
also already help, without any setting at all.

SUMMARY
When signing a PDF document with Okular, and even with only one certificate
being available, no certificate is preselected. This leads to unnecessary work,
but more importantly, it leads to a spurious error message if the user does not
notice this being inactive: "Enter certificate password" (even if there is no
password for the certificate).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open PDF in Okular
2. Tools - Digitally Sign
3. Choose a position and click.

OBSERVED RESULT
The first field (Select certificate to sign with) is inactive, even despite
looking active in my Qt style.

EXPECTED RESULT
The first field should have a certificate selected by default, at least if
there is only one certificate.

The situation in 24.02.2 seems to be worse, i.e. one cannot sign a document
anymore. The password dialog pops up but now an empty string is not allowed
anymore and one has no way of signing the document ("cancel"/close the dialog
will cancel the signing process). This is tested with the attached document and
also other documents with a signature field.

[okular] [Bug 443403] Reduce the size of the digital signature display

2024-04-15 Thread Nicolas Fella
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=443403

Git commit 465b9ff5cea0cc4d4f35308ac1bb3d84a912cda9 by Nicolas Fella.
Committed on 15/04/2024 at 12:24.
Pushed by nicolasfella into branch 'master'.

Let poppler pick the font size when signing signature fields

Currently we use the default font sizes for NewSignatureData, which are 10 for
fontSize and 20 for leftFontSize

This can be too large for a small signature field, leasing to cut-off text

When passing 0 poppler picks a suitable size depending on the size of the
signature field

I tested it with current master on Windows. Qt6 brought some improvements,
using the PDF OP provided, at the same zoom as in his video (690.8%), the font
stretching and jumping is less, but still noticeable.

Installing the current nightly for windows, compiled with Qt6 indeed fixes the
bug. All interface elements and fonts are correctly scaled. On the left: 125%,
in the middle: 175%, right: 100%

[okular] [Bug 485445] New: Okluar crashes after computer enters Screen Energy Saving Mode

2024-04-12 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=485445

Bug ID: 485445
Summary: Okluar crashes after computer enters Screen Energy
Saving Mode
Classification: Applications
   Product: okular
   Version: 23.08.3
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Keywords: drkonqi
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: okular-devel@kde.org
  Reporter: mkschu...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Application: okular (23.08.3)

Qt Version: 5.15.11
Frameworks Version: 5.111.0
Operating System: Linux 6.6.8-200.fsync.fc38.x86_64 x86_64
Windowing System: X11
Distribution: Nobara Linux 38 (KDE Plasma)
DrKonqi: 5.27.9 [KCrashBackend]

-- Information about the crash:
When waking from Screen Energy Saving, Okular will crash. Seemingly, the
longer the computer has been in this mode, the more likely Okular is to crash.
For example, if I happen to be by my computer when the screen turns off and I
immediately wake it, Okular will most likely not crash. When I return to my
computer from this state overnight, it is almost guaranteed to have crashed.

The crash can be reproduced every time.

Classification: Applications

   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Arch Linux

Adding an option to use custom Shortcuts that executes a shell script, or a
command like so:

In the shortcuts menu, you can add option, add custom shortcut which asks for a
shell command, or a script to execute.
Some examples:
F
   xdotool super+f
e
   alacritty -e 'lf'
o
   dmenu_recent_okular ( this could be a user shell-script )
It would make okular much more extensible.
