Kurt, I believe it should be mechanically regulated. If you adjust it
back 15 minutes at the end of the day, that should slightly slow down
the speed and it should be off by less the next day. Have you tried
this?

I did it on my former '78 4-door and managed, somehow. It's been a few

You definitely do not have to remove the windshield. On a 2-door,
nothing needs to be removed at all, just roll one window down and open
the door. Keep in mind how much narrower the roof is than the area
between the doors. On a 4-door, removal of the front seat is what I'd
recommend.
