I've noticed that there seems to be a trend now toward modern radials for
cars using a 44 PSI max.
That's necessary for radials on big diameter wheels with almost no sidewall.

I experimented with pressure till the tires wore straight
across. Over inflate, the middle wears out; under inflate
and its the edges. This turns out to be around 34 psi in
the rear, 38 psi in the (more heavily loaded) front, varying
some for each different car. The Toronado wants 40 in

I run 35 on everything with radials. I used to run 32, but upped it
by 3psi on the recommendation of the guy at the alignment shop.

I do tend to use temperature to determine tire pressure. Drive the car, check
temp on 3 places across the tread. ie: hotter in the middle than on the
edges indicates over inflation. Now for the observation trivia. I
generally run 28 psi on all four corners. After sitting for 4 months, t

Thanks, Greg. I'm running ~24 psi with 78-14, but will be moving over
to radials soon. That's why I thought I'd ask.

I know that on my now-departed '64 Skylark, the original spec was 24 PSI
all around. I would never run that nowadays though with radials. On my '68
I run 32 PSI at all 4 corners.
