hi,
for reasons not relevant for a discussion here I need to move the data on
on a on omnios zpool to a linux (preferably) ZoL installation or to freebsd
(second choice).
This is a data zpool, not rpool. So would it work to install another OS on
the disks allocated to the rpool and then

Thanks for this, we've finished switching over to OpenSSH across our servers
Hi!
Got a small problem here:
I can log in as normal on ssh, and su to root without any problems.
But I can't login as root directly at console/screen, but I can log in as
normal user @screen, but not su to root...
What could have happened...?

Hi!
Solved it...
Stupid thing, of coarse...
I use a kvm switch to reach the console screen, and I had changed the keyboard
from a usb keyboard to a ps2. So the problem must be in the kvm switch. As soon
as I changed back to the original usb keyboard it worked again. Strange, since

Normally since opensolaris, root is a role (not a useraccount), so

Yes, that small number of packages or OmniOS can be extended to e.g.
build up a webstack which works across the various supported OS
distributions. That way, I personally hope to

I encountered an additional issue with OpenSSH. The issues related to
updating to OpenSSH 7.0+ are described at
http://www.openssh.com/legacy.html. The problem I ran into was that
existing user keys of type 'ssh-dss' are not accepted. The
work-around offered on that page (a client setting)
Are you sure the replacement disk has the same physical sector size? It's not
like vendors don't change specs on newer versions of the same model sometimes
:(. What exactly is it? Is it by any chance one of those 4K drives with a
jumper that controls whether or not it lies about the physical
