It's bothered me for some time that a basic infrastructure item like AFS is distributed in a way that bypasses the OS software management system on most platforms. I guess it's a time/resources thing, but still -- seems wrong, somehow. It's not that hard to do, especially on Solaris and AIX.

Kevin: Your issue is that you are still using kaserver and while DNS queries for the cache manager work properly in 1.5.71, they do not work for klog or afscreds or integrated login when communicating to kaserver. Sorry about that but I simply don't have any kaservers to test against any longer.
