I just installed dx on RedHat 6.1, with
opendx-4.0.10-1.i386.rpm
opendx-docs-4.0.10-1.i386.rpm
and its samples from dxsamples-4.0.8.tar.
Everything seems working OK except path and samples. I've added a
/usr/local/dx/bin to my path. But whenever I typed dx, I got
You need to run configure on the samples directory and then do a make install.
The rpm should have installed a dx in /usr/local/bin/dx, then you
should have /usr/local/bin in your path.

I've installed the dx-4.0.10 rpms and additionally I made a link in
/usr/local/bin. You do this (as root):
ln -s /usr/local/dx/bin/dx
