I've come accross a repository where someone intends to work on Droid:

But no sign of it being official. The licensing issue is still not

With the delay on the Android release, does anyone has more information
on this? Aside from the promise of a Apache license of course? Has
anyone approached them to advocate a font-specific license that would
engage more designers?
