Re: [osol-discuss] Flashplayer 9 Gone from Adobe Site
Near as I can tell Adobe seems to be in a state of war with Solaris users. Adobe is an extremely BIZZARRE company. For example, they've been delivering Adobe (Acrobat) Reader for years for Solaris on sparc, but they seem to constantly refuse to release the same for Solaris on i86pc. And the most bizzarre part is, I've never heard anyone at Adobe say anything about this issue. What's even worse, they've ported the thing to Linux, an order of magnitude uglier and harder job without a doubt, but they simply refuse to do a simple compile for a same OS (Solaris) on a different platform. It's their product and that's fine, but I'd really appreciate it if they at least took an official stance on it. This way, it turns out Adobe just shuns Solaris and lets Macromedia's junk be ported to it, but doesn't let any of their own products of any value run on it. Re: [osol-discuss] Flashplayer 9 Gone from Adobe Site
I'm shocked that Adobe is actually finally doing a port of the version 9 player. I was fully expecting them to utterly abandon the OS, much less cough up x86 support. They seem to have big problems with maintaining cross platform sources, and keeping them up. I do not expect an x86 pdf reader, and the idea of them keeping up on ports of other applications is ludicrous given their track record. Adobe has traditionally employed code that was very tight with the OS it ran on - let's not forget, proto Adobe *depended* on an Apple Mac to run. Written on the Mac, for the Mac. If you look at any of the 5, 6 or 7 Pohotoshops on Windows, you can instantly tell they had to go through great lengths and pains to compensate for not running on a Mac - the gadgets / widgets are their own because Windows didn't have MacOS widgets/gadgets that Photoshop relied on. While Adobe has a few ingenious software developers as far as image processing effects go - Adobe as a company could really go back to school as far as writing clean, platform independent code goes. Eric Saxe wrote: Bob Palowoda wrote: Ah this does sound encouraging. Though it's still confusing why the download page says Solarisx86 and points to a Sparc version. It did at one time point to x86 versions. But maybe this an Adobe web page problem. I've been going back and forth with Adobe support on this one trying to get the link fixed. So far, it's been rather painful. Adobe just notified me that they are working on correcting this. ___ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
Re: [osol-discuss] Flashplayer 9 Gone from Adobe Site
Solaris version of flashplayer 9 plugin seems to have disappeared from the Adobe d/l site: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer9.html Anyone knows anything about this? Thanks. Near as I can tell Adobe seems to be in a state of war with Solaris users. If I goto http://www.shockwave.com/home.jsp with my browser [ Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; SunOS i86pc; en-US; rv:1.8.1.4) Gecko/20070531 SeaMonkey/1.1.2 ] then I get the usual bunch of alerts and popups that all tell me I need to download a plugin. I note that I can click on some download now button on the site and I am presented with a box that says : Adobe Flash Player Download Center Solaris x86 + a big dumb button that says download now If I click on that button I get the following Sparc software : http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_7_solaris_sparc.tar.gz Its almost as if someone somewhere just wants Solaris x86 to curl up and die already. Thank you. Be damned if I understand what the issues are. I think the issue is Adobe. Dennis ___ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org

Leon - Thanks for these links. The refresh version installs and works fine unlike one that was there a few days ago.
