if you enter the line set define ~ command before you @g:\. you
should be fine.
this is a difference between sqlplus and pb. note that toad works like pb -
anything within
the /* */ is a comment.
wouldn't it be great if Oracle could produce two products that work

We have a meeting with our Compaq reps tomorrow to discuss the Alpha
processor move to Intel. I'll put money down that a discussion of the
HP/Compaq merger will eclipse Alpha/Intel. If anything worthwhile comes up,
I'll let you all know.

You could try
set define off -- stops SQL*Plus looking for substitution variables off
or
ser scan off-- much the same thing I think

The problem I have is with the TnsNames.ora. With no changes it doesn't fail

Thank you for the suggestions Thomas and Connor. This was only an example pulled from a much larger procedure that doesn't have a for loop. My main question was about the missing sequence error.
