Export Long Dies with no error

I am running an Oracle 8.1.7 export on a 2G table which contains a Long column. The export runs for several hours and then just dies with no error anywhere. I tried to use direct=y but I get an error about character sets. Any ideas? Thanks! Ron Smith If you are not the intended recipient of
