Is it possible to set a default index tablespace, rather than specify it in
the create table statement?

Not as far as I know John, if so I should think it would be a part of the
ALTER USER command, and there is no listing for this in any manual or book I
have read.
List correct me if I'm wrong, as I'd love to see this too..

Yeah, I've wanted that for years. I tried to automate
changing the User's default tablespace in a Before Create
trigger on a schema, but couldn't figure out how to tell if
an index was being created and, anyway, you can't do that
kind of DDL in that kind of trigger.
