That dollar bill origami looks like it could be the traditional dollar bill bow
tie with the ends tucked into the center area. The ribbon that hangs down
would be a second dollar bill. The photo does not indicate if the second
dollar bill is locked in-place or simply taped to the back of the

Hi O-Listers,
I think we can solve this issue by asking his wife and/or surviving children.
If Yoshizawa wanted his models preserved in a museum, in the form of diagrams
in a book, or in the form of photographs of intact models, he would have
mentioned this to his surviving family.
He must
Hi,does anyone know who is the keeper of the newsletter the Scaffold? There
used to be someone doing it... long long ago. I wonder if I could host the
newsletter on my web site so it doesn't disappear.
Here is one example of an issue:

I think those are called "tatos". Here are some examples:

Hi,there are three ways to cut a heptagon from a square. Is it true that the
first one listed here is mathematically exact? What about the other 2 methods,
are they "pretty good" or are they "very good" estimates of a true heptagon:
What kind of :3D Origami" are you talking about? There is a kind of modular
origami made with small triangular pieces which is now popularly called 3D
origami. It is also called Chinese origami or Golden Venture Folding. You can
read about it here:

>>But back to my question: Who decided origami couldn't be cut or glued, and
>>where, and when?
Old tyme-y origami had cuts in it so I wouldn't say that original origami
didn't allow cuts.
I don't know who or when the idea of no cuts, no glue, no tools came to be (see

I think this is simply called cuboctahedron though it is technically a
cubohemioctahedrom. You can see diagrams here:

I believe it was independently discovered by a number of origami/math
enthusiasts.

For me, text is always helpful. Sometimes I cannot understand what the arrows
mean especially when there is more than one arrow in a step (and this is
speaking as a Non-Beginner). The best part about text is that if I understand
the arrows, I just ignore the text. The textual description is
I'm not entirely sure, but I don't think that is a dodecahedron. It may be an
icosahedron.
The model could be the stellated icosahedron shown on this page:

If I recall correctly, Gay Merrill Gross also has a single sheet
Hi,yes, I was just thinking that it looked like a cube with two opposite
corners cut off. I believe they call this chopping off corners as a

Hi,I don't know who was the folder, but this video was generated in 2012 after

I have heard of origami being similar to music in terms of origami diagrams and

Origami diagrams are a set of instructions the same way music sheets are a set

Hi,what is the currently accepted convention on showing mountain vs valley
crease lines? Are we using red lines to indicate mountain folds and a blue
line to represent valley folds?
thank you, Diana
Hi,do you still call a fold a "pleat fold" if the folds are on the diagonal
instead of exactly parallel to each other? For example in the origami nautilus.
Example:1) start with a 4"x4" paper
2) Fold into quarters, divide the paper into 4 sections of size 1"x4"
3) turn paper over
4) make 4
Maybe try a different texture of paper.I am not familiar with version 3, but
other rhombic dodecahedrons I have made rely on friction to keep it together.
Try using a thicker paper or paper with more texture (less slippery)Regards,
