Subject: [osg-users] Weekend adventure

Hi All,

I've just wrapped up my work for the week, and taking this afternoon
and whole weekend off! The car is packed with food, camping and
running equipment and I'm now setting off. Tomorrow morning I set off
on my first mountain marathon, the Lochalsh Dirty 30.

   http://www.lochalsh-trails.co.uk/

We start at the pituresque village of Glenelg on the west coast of
Scotland, overlooking the Isle of Skye, then run along the coast, past
the famous Eilean Donan Castle (it's featured in many films) and then
back into the mountains and through a mountain pass, then back to
Glenelg for beers and food. Total distance is 30 miles, with 1000m of
ascent/descent thrown into the mix, furthest I've ever been on foot in
one day so it's quite a challenging adventure, but ohh yes the
countryside is stunning and worth ever step.

But... of course I'll be thinking about terrain visualization, shader
composition and fixing pesky bugs as I go... for a at least a second
or two ;-)

Catch up with you all on Monday, and have a great weekend yourselves,

Robert.

Hi,

I need separate models of a man's body and head. Can you suggest where I can
find them? Any of these file formats will do: 3dc, 3ds, flt, geo, iv, ive, lwo,
md2, obj, osg.

Also, does anyone know how to edit an osg model. For instance in the example
cow.osg, how do I edit it so that only its head is present and the body is
deleted?

Thank you!

Cheers,
John

Hi John,

I would suggest adding the directory where the collada lib is into your lib
search path. I can't recall exactly what this is under windows, could it just
be PATH? The other alternative is to copy the lib into the directory where
you've installed the OSG libs.

[osg-users] (no subject)

2010-03-02 Thread Montgomery, John T.
Hello All,

I am trying, for the first time, to export a Blender model into OSG -
specifically, present3D.

I have compiled OSG debug version with Collada,
Exported a DAE from Blender 'eye.dae'.
Run this in the standard plain vanilla way for present3D - within a slide/layer:
slide
background/background
titleEye Modelled in Blender/title
duration20/duration
layer
model coordinate_frame=slide
scale=1.0images/eye.dae/model
/layer
/slide

Run with:
C:\2010-02-22_OSG\bin\present3Dd.exe C:\dropbox\tutorial\eye.p3d

(Some of the) console debug output:
SlideShowConstructor::addModel(images/eye.dae)
readNode(images/eye.dae)
itr='C:\2010-02-22_OSG\bin'
FindFileInPath() : trying C:\2010-02-22_OSG\bin\osgPlugins-2.9.7\osgdb_daed.dll
...
FindFileInPath() : USING C:\2010-02-22_OSG\bin\osgPlugins-2.9.7\osgdb_daed.dll
DynamicLibrary::failed loading osgPlugins-2.9.7/osgdb_daed.dll
No valid object found for images/eye.dae
Warning: Could not find plugin to read objects from file images/eye.dae.
end of SlideShowConstructor::addModel(images/eye.dae)

In the running application, a dialogue reports.
This application has failed to start because libcollada14dom2l-d.dll was not
found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.
( Technically, the application isn't installed, I didn't build 'INSTALL'. Does
this matter? )

The dll is in the folder C:\2010-02-22_OSG\bin\osgPlugins-2.9.7\osgdb_daed.dll,
 however, libcollada14dom2l-d.dll is in
C:\OSG_dev\collada \dom\build\vc9-1.4-d\libcollada14dom21-d.dll  (miles away)
This directory \collada\ is at the same level, *but not inside* the OSG
3rdParty dependencies folder.
I have an environmental variable COLLADA_DIR= C:\OSG_dev\collada
Also, have C:\OSG_dev\collada \dom\build\vc9-1.4-d\ in PATH variable.
I tried copying the DLL to C:\2010-02-22_OSG\bin\osgPlugins-2.9.7 - but, didn't
help.

The minimal slide contains two things, and I don't think is the cause of the
problem:
1. The title which displays and handles as normal,
2. The DAE model (not) - which of course doesn't appear.

I would be grateful for any ideas what might be going wrong here, please?

  That'd be great. I know several of us others can participate -- would you be
willing to
organize it?

  Basically, make a wiki page listing all of the source/header files (like an
ls -lR) and
as each one is assigned we can note next to it the initials of who is working
on it.
When it's done being checked, we can append (done) to that line.

  I'm thinking we should do this to the most-current branch to prevent a huge
branch-merge
mess, but I don't want to step on Robert's OGL-ES work.

  Robert, should we wait to being this process, or is it safe to perform it
now? Would it
be desirable to set up John with SVN trunk access to commit spelling-only
changes? I don't
know your comfort level with that, or John's experience level with SVN, so I'm
just
shooting out in the dark on that.

it runs as expected.
But, when I run it from a standard command-line console, present3d crashes on
find file Present3D/OpenSceneGraphlogo.png - it does the same anytime it
tries to 'find file'.

I am not sure where to find a definitive statement how my environment should be
set up?

In PATH I have included:

C:\OSG\bin\;
C:\OSG_dev\3rdParty\bin;
C:\OSG_dev\OSG-Data;
...but no other environmental variables.

Running Present3Dd for introduction.p3d on the command-line yields the error
(in a windows dialogue):

Debug assertion failed!

Any suggestions to get things running normally would be appreciated, thanks.

Re: [osg-users] OSG Windows XP environment setup?? SOLVED

2009-09-28 Thread Montgomery, John T.
Not clear why, but...

Each time I was running from within C:\OSG_dev\OSG-Data and therefore, using
only 'introduction.p3d'
However, running from 'C:\Documents and Settings' - thus requiring a full-path
for the input file - ' C:\OSG_dev\OSG-Data\introduction.p3d'
It worked!

Re: [osg-users] [build] OSG w. MSVC9 - osgUtil/TexturePoolSize compilation problem

2009-09-24 Thread Montgomery, John T.
Hi Robert,

I agree that it has nothing to do with your recent changes.

My suspicion is it has something to do with file i/o, or, if it's involved (?)
- threading - and me having used a wrong version of something. What part of
OSG/P3D handles the i/o?

( This is my home computer on which OSG was successfully compiled in Callander
and used for running/developing presentations, etc. :-)

Re: Sanity check: yes the presentation I was initially trying to run was one
that worked previously, but I will double-check later. Also, introduction.p3d -
a very simple file in OSG-Data used to work; doesn't now
(
My last email I attached the super-simple file I investigated with:
As it stands it doesn't work.
If you delete the line, 'volume technique=mipCARDIX/volume' - the file
works (Displaying Hello World), so it's not XML parsing or text rendering.
Replacing volume tag with an image tag will also break things. i.e. Seems
to be anytime it has to fetch a file.
Bypassing the script file and just displaying a volume from the command-line
works. So it's not the rendering side of things.
)

Another little passing observation - in CMake options, there is one for 'Use
UTF-8 filenames' which was unchecked - I wonder if that could cause problems?

Off topic: Can you confirm you have access to the Mac, please/thanks. If not,
I can sort that today.
However, I am not beside the Windows computer today, so can't really progress
that.

Hi John,

I believe the problems you are seeing will probably not be related to
the changes I've recently checked in w.r.t the texture pool. Have you
had osgviewer and present3D working fine on this machine with these
models/presentations before?

What spec hardware (i.e. graphics card, CPU etc) are you currently working on?

I've just tested introduction.p3d and your slide.p3d against one of
the volumes I have here and the all working fine. The problem in
rendering of morhphing.osg is just down to the morphed geometry
needing to be explictly initialized by osgAnimation. If you run
osganimationviewer morphing.osg you should see how it's supposed to
function, it would better if it'd behavior better by default with the
need for directly enabling osgAnimation, but I'll have to defer to
Cedric Pinson (author + maintainer of osgAnimation) on this topic.

As a sanity test try the same models/presentations on the Mac.

Robert.

Hi again,

 I am trying to compile OSG using VS9 (2008) on WinXP and getting 2
 errors which seem to be related to the most recent changes:

Now that the TextureObject and TextureObjectManager classes have
non-inline methods (defined in Texture.cpp) they need OSG_EXPORT added
to their class declarations, i.e.

class OSG_EXPORT TextureObjectManager : public osg::Referenced
{
   // ...

Same for TextureObject.

I'm in the process of a full build, I'll submit the modified files as
soon as I'm sure everything builds and runs well. I just wanted you to
know so you can do the change locally if you need the build right now.

J-S was spot on, an OSG_EXPORT was missing from the two new nested
classes. J-S submitted these changes and I've now checked them in so
an svn update should fix things.

Cheers,
Robert.

Further stuff I noted:
bullet works - text appears, if there's no following Volume tag.
image crashes - again the last thing that appears is 'find file

Is the next step to recompile with Debug active? Or, does the above suggest
something to you?
I'm also sketchy on what environmental variables should be set - I have added
C:\OSG_dev\3rdParty\bin;C:\OSG\bin; to my PATH, but that's all.

Thanks.
