The Somali people shouldn't expect peace and stability in the country, one
of the top commanders of militant group al Shabaab said Wednesday evening in
a public address at the Ramadan mosque in the Elasha Biyaha neighborhood on
the southern outskirts of the capital.

The commander, Sheik Mohamed Abu Muslim, told people praying at the mosque
to register for jihad, but most of them left after saying their prayers.
That angered the military official, according to Liban Ali, one of the
people at the mosque.

"I know you don't want jihad and you are dreaming peace-I am telling you
that there will no peace in Somalia and the war here will last long, don't
expect peace," Abu Muslim reportedly told the worshipers.

"The infidels always announce the words 'peace and reconciliation' so we
don't want our people to follow them-the world would be peaceful only after
when Islam controls New York, Washington, Paris or London," he said,
according to the witness.

Abu Muslim is said to be one of the most hard-line individuals in the
al-Qaeda-linked group and was trained in Afghanistan in 2002 before
returning to Somalia in 2003.

He said that jihad is a religious obligation on every Muslim and he who
doesn't voluntarily take part in jihad is a non-believer of Islam and will
be punished for his refusal.

"It was a shocking moment when I heard the Islamist announcing that war in
Somalia will never end and people must not expect stability-if the situation
continues like this staying in Somalia will be difficulty," Mohamed Dahif
Fidow, who lives in Elasha Biyaha, told All Headline News by telephone
Thursday
