So choices 1 and 2, right now I'm using #2, running owserver (v 2.7p22)
on the usb adapter. I think we decided that this is a usb problem and
not owfs.

William,
Can you recap your current scenario?
Typically there are two ways to mix serial and USB:
1. A serial 1-wire bus master (DS9097U, LINK, HA7E, ...) connected to
a serial port, which is connected to USB. The serial/USB adapter then
must be supported by linux and the serial port usually has

The HA7E (and the LINK) use a simple ascii interface that make it
possible to communicate with miniterm or something similar directly
from the command line. They both do more of the 1-wire discovery
on-board, and have specific support for some popular chips

OWFS uses libusb for opening the 2490. There is no specific usb 1.1 or

If you add --foreground --error_level=9 the initial libusb
communication may help with troubeshooting.

Hello!
Where are you based, William that your adapter was destroyed by lightning?
About the only place where a lightning strike can be guaranteed is in
Florida.
According to the statistics kept by the NOAA guys, Florida gets more
lightning strikes per year, then we get up here, and I am in NYC.
Whats the correct syntax for msec_read?

Lightning took out my DS9097U serial adapter yesterday. So I am
thinking about replacing it with the HA7E. I am looking for opinions
regarding preferances for the HA7E versus the DS9097U. Am I correct in
assuming they are similar in function? Also your favorite places for

For the further amusement of those following my confusion regarding the

Hi all:
We've been moving our owfs data collection servers over to sheeva
plugs, and have been experiencing really good results...except for one
minor problem.
Everything works perfectly if the 2490 is plugged directly into the
sheeva's single USB 2.0 port. However, we wanted to connect
