I can see the point about multiple content databases, but they could have at
least allowed a query against another site collection (one at a time). This
would save many people having to resort to 3rd party tools or custom
development.

After trialling SP2 in our test
Definitely remotely (pretty much all users' pc's) I haven't actually checked on
the server itself.
Going to take a look at permission in the 12 hive now.
I just wish the event viewer or log files contained something useful :)
