hello list: yesterday i ripped a couple of cd's with windows media player with no immediate problem, but as i was sitting here i noticed that jaws didn't give me a progress report on how the rip was doing. i found this to be a nuisance in that i didn't have a clue what stage the rip was at.

With most standard sound cards like Sound Blaster Live you can't use a regular microphone directly. You will need a computer microphone. The computer microphone requires some sort of phantom power that the sound card provides. To use a regular microphone you will need a microphone pre-amp

Hi folks, I have recorded lots of my vinyl using GoldWave; and I've downloaded some files from a friend. The ones I recorded are about three times the size of the downloaded ones. All are mp3. I can't tell the difference in sound quality. What am I doing wrong. Thanks a bunch for your help.
