Well, I set the mic volume at 100% and not muted, but even plugging a signal
from a line-out voltage wasn't audible, not even an electric ouch. Is
there something in the creative mixer that has to be set to turn the mic
jack on?
Thanks,

hello list:
yesterday i ripped a couple of cd's with windows media player with no immediate
problem, but as i was sitting here i noticed that jaws didn't give me a
progress report on how the rip was doing. i found this to be a nuisance in that
i didn't have a clue what stage the rip was at.
With most standard sound cards like Sound Blaster Live you can't use a
regular microphone directly. You will need a computer microphone. The
computer microphone requires some sort of phantom power that the sound card
provides. To use a regular microphone you will need a microphone pre-amp
Actually, that's not strictly true. I'm using a Soni stereo microphone -
okay it has it's own 1.5 volt battery but it works just fine straight into
the mic jack of the sound card.

If you have Skype Out Sony is very helpful at 1-800-577-6642.

files from a friend. The ones I recorded are about three times the size of
the downloaded ones. All are mp3. I can't tell the difference in sound
quality. What am I doing wrong.
Thanks a bunch for your help.
Hi Jay,
Check the following:
1. Is the Microphone plugged into the mic jack, and not another jack by
mistake.
2. If the microphone has a on/off switch is it on.
3. Is the microphone boost turned on in the volume control.
Is the recording software being used, set to the soundcard the microphone is

Chrissie I stand corrected but I'm not sure I'd like to apply a voltage
to the mic input but then again it probably won't hurt.

Hi Anita! I don't know if this helps, but I have Winamp 5.1. When I did
the alt l, it took me to a prompt that says, Add media to library! It
then says, You have 0 media added to your library. Would you like to add
media? Then it takes you to where you can press enter on i you want to.
I
do others know of other ways to add media? is there only one way? What other
advantages are accessible in 5.1?
