I'm wanting to be able to make high quality recordings for broadcast and the
web.
I believe the way forward these days is to get a solid state recording
device, is that right? I'm assuming we're talking about recorders that
enable you to record onto a Flash card. Or something like that.

It looks like my Lite-On drive of a bit over three years is on the
fritz. I have tried running a cd cleaner from memorex through the
thing a number of times, but no major improvement if any when it
comes to the consistent reading of cds, so I'm going to buy another
drive. Since
I use an Ederol R09 recorder which records onto a 16 MB card, although you
can get 1 GB or 2 GB cards. I believe they cost about $200.

You may already know, but if you're buying a new DVD drive, or a CD drive
for that matter, it's highly likely that you'll at least need to update your
nero software. Updates are different to upgrades in that they are free and
generally just provide bug fixes, support for new drives

Any cd or DVD drive you get comes with software.
Most of them that I know about comes with Nero, but some may come with
Roxyo.
They will set you back some where between $50 to $70.
But it all depends on the brand and mottle.

It can convert one file to another.
It converts from mp3 to wma wave and arg, you can even convert these back to
mp3.
Do a Google or Yahoo surch for it, you will find it threw one of these
surches.

times but I have since lost them and can't remember where I downloaded
