Hi, gang! Thought I'd throw out this question to see if anyone else is around who might have an answer. I set up JAWS to come out of my on-board sound card, thanks to your wonderful help. And the rest of the sounds were playing fine through my usb sound card. Well, that lasted for a day.

If you're focusing mostly on spoken word editing, Studio Recorder from APH is great. Of course, it can do music too, but some of the best features are specific to narration. The program was designed to be useful to blind folks, so you don't have a lot of extraneous decoration to work around.
