soundforge editing question
Hi all, When editing a sound byte, I use to be able to do the following, and now I can not. I will put these steps down first and then explain more. 1. I press the letter q to make sure cuing is on. 2. 2. I then press the spacebar to start the sound byte playing. 3. 3. Next, I would hold down the left shift key and arrow to the right. 4. Sound forge would play the sound byte as I move to the right, stopping when I stop arrowing. However, now in order to hear where my selection has stopped, I have to listen through the whole section that has been selected. This takes up much more time. I am not sure what has gotten unchecked or changed and am hoping someone on this list does. So simply put, I once could just select the sound and soundforge would just play the selected data. If I stopped arrowing, sound would stop immediately. If I moved the arrow right or left, sound would respond immediately with the new stopping place. I hope I explained my question. I would be glad to share my phone off list withsomeone if they are willing to help out. It is probably something I accidently checked off or on. Thanks for reading this long email.

I went to the link on my iPhone and it went through the web browser of Safari. I listened to the TV show Cold Case last night at 7PM. It had the audio description. Blind TV is a free web based service that provides audio-only television programming, in several genres, all with audio description. It currently has 5 completely audio described channels, featuring dozens of shows and thousands of episodes. There aren't any schedules, but new programs begin at 0 and 30 minutes after the hour. RE: internet tv
Hi again Loren, Here is another article where you can check on described tv shows in your area. They are not on the computer. However, AFB has a tool that allows for finding what chanels on your tv will be having described movies etc. AFB Launches Described TV Listings! Article edited to insert step by step directions written by Dan. In order to view discribed TV shows the SAP option must be activated under setup menus provided This option can be toggled on/off. Sighted help will probably be needed to make this change. For further information, contact: Mark Richert, Esq. Director, Public Policy, AFB (202) 469-6833 mrich...@afb.net The landmark Twenty-First Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act (CVAA) has begun a revolution in mainstream telecommunications and video technology accessibility. Among its many groundbreaking achievements, the CVAA mandates several of the most popular television networks to make some of their prime-time and children's programs accessible to viewers with vision loss by adding video description. To help celebrate and promote this achievement, AFB has implemented a Described TV Listings page on our website, an online guide where visitors can determine which shows will be described as well as when they air. Video description (sometimes called audio description or simply description) makes television programs and movies accessible for people who are blind or visually impaired. Short verbal descriptions of action or key visual scenes in a program, such as setting, costumes, and facial expressions, are provided to add context. The descriptions are inserted into pauses within a program's dialog. Since July 1, 2012, the networks required to each provide approximately four hours of video description per week include ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, USA, the Disney Channel, TNT, Nickelodeon, and TBS. This expanded array of choices is a much-fought-for complement to the current rich menu of described programming that PBS has offered for many years. AFB's Described TV Listings initiative makes it easier to find which shows are described, allowing people with vision loss to enjoy their favorite shows alongside their sighted peers. AFB is deeply grateful to the Rovi Corporation and Comcast for helping us create this valuable tool. Re: winamp help please
Here is also the keys for converting files in winamp. Converting audio files using winamp DATE: 1. Open up Winamp from the programs menu or the desktop. 2. now find the file that you want to convert and open it up in Winamp, either by pressing enter on it or through the open file dialogue. 3. Ok, now press the letter v to stop it, we don't want it to keep playing. 4. now here's where the fun starts. go to the preferences, by pressing control plus p of course. 5. go to the plugins section and then choose output in the tree view. 6. now tab over to the list of plugins, and focus on the one called the Nullsoft Discwriter plugin, your version number may vary but it all comes to the same. 7. now, it's time to configure it so that we can tell what type of file to convert to. so tab to the configure button. 8. now you're going to be in a dialogue with some buttons in it. the first one will determine where your output file, that is to say your converted file will be saved. you may hear something like, output file location c:\doccuments and settings...my music button. If you press that button, a dialogue will pop up and you can then determine where your file will be saved. 9. now that you've done that, you'll be back in the dialogue, and the next thing you'll see is a checkbox that says, output to directory containing source files, and by default, this is unchecked. This is so that you can have your converted file in exactly the same folder as the original file was. so check that if you want the file to go there, i would do that for simplicities sake. You can always move it later. 10. Next checkbox you'll see says, display save as dialogue for every file. This is so that if you're converting an entire list of files, you'll be able to determine where each file goes. I would imagine that you would probably want them all to go in the same folder, but maybe not? so check that if you like, i normally leave it as is because usually I'm only converting one file. This is unchecked by default. 11. Next up, we have a combo box that determines if there are or numbers at the beginning of your outputted file name. the choices you have are, disabled, 1 digit, 2 digits, 3 digits and 4 digits. I can't imagine why anyone would actually want 4 digits, that is unless you're converting literally thousands of files, which i've never done and probably won't ever do. If I'm converting something from an album i like to at least have a number at the beginning of the file name, 01, or 02, depending on where you are in the playlist of files. but if you want to disable this, you can. 12. Next, we have a combo box that determines the title format, the one by default is % title %. this means you get the % which equals the first 2 numbers like we mentioned before, artist name, title and then the track name. so i would keep that as is. 13. Next we have output file type, and the choice is set to auto recommended. this is so you can choose different file formats. and 14. Next down the line is a checkbox that says enable single mode. Leave this unchecked. 15. Now we're getting to the good part here, hang with me folks! this next checkbox will determine wether or not Winamp actually remembers what file you convert to a lot, so if you convert to mp3 a lot, leave this checkbox checked so you can just perform the final few steps. 16. Tab once again and you'll land on a button that determines what file you can actually convert your file to. for mine in particular, this button says, MPEG layer 3 192KBPS, 44.1 K Hertz, stereo that's usually what i convert to, but if you want something different, you can press this button and you can change the file type, bitrate and sampling rate of your file. Note that if you don't have the radium codec installed, you won't be able to convert to anything higher than 56k, 22.50 k hertz stereo. I believe the lame encoder will fix this too, and the lame encoder should be very easy to find if you do a little hunting around. 17. It's time to actually do the conversion! So tab past that next checkbox, i have no idea what the thread priority hack refers to, so just press ok and you'll be in the preferences again. close the preferences in the usual way. 18. Press the letter x which will essentially play your file. But you won't hear any sound. Trust me, you won't. that's just how this plugin works because it moves very quickly. If you want to know the status of your conversion, press the hotkey which reads your title bar, insert t for JAWS and control shift t for Window-eyes, or whatever one you use. You will know your file is converted when you hear the name of your file, followed by Winamp stopped. Note that while the file conversion happens, you may notice that software speech is slower to respond, and sometimes it just doesn't happen at all, but like I say the conversions happen very quickly. 19. If you followed all the steps above, congratulations, you just

I thought so, and tried to use the Dos attrib command, but it couldn't find the file. Any suggestions? I'll be able to delete these when I'm finished extracting the songs into individual tracks, but I'd like to clear up this problem without needing to delete the tape-long files within Sound Forge. Thanks a lot. Matthew To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

Re: hotkey for getting file lingth of a selected bit of soundinsoundforge
Thank you Barry , I have been taking the selected sound, saving it into a new blank file, saving it, and checking it's duration by going to where it is saved and highlighting it. Then if it is not the needed size, I delete the small file and create it again once changing the size. A bit time consuming indeed. But I am going to try your idea, it is less steps. Thanks again. - Original Message - From: Barry Chapman ba...@bchapman.id.au To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Thursday, January 27, 2011 4:39 PM Subject: Re: hotkey for getting file lingth of a selected bit of soundinsoundforge I don't know of such a hot key, but it would be useful. hp G62-355dx laptop question
Hi All, I appologize for posting this question here but not sure where else to try. One of my students got a hp G62-355dx laptop for christmas. We put JAWS on it. However, both of us are totally blind and the normal keystrokes like alt plus f4, control plus f4 or any other keystroke involving the functions all do something different that expected. I have tried finding a keyboard discription on line with no luck. so I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this unit. There are also a fun verticle line of keys on the left side before the common shift, tabe etc we have tried with littleluck. Any help would be very very appreciated. I produce radio and video spots, and in these 5 years of work I've ever used Sound forge, that isn't a multitrack editor, so has some limitations for my work. On this list I've discovered that Reaper can become very accessible by using Rea Access, a tird parti plug-in that talks to my screen reader and allows movements between tracks, faders, triggers ecc. I've learned how to select, cut, paste, but I can't understand volumes. Often, for my work I have 2 or 3 tracks, one for the background music and the others for voices or effects. So I need to put down the volume of the background music and re incrementing the same volume when the voice track is finished. How I can do this with Reaper via keyboard commands? I've assigned a shortcut for inserting envelope points, but then I can't understand what I have to do. I don't want to use automation if possible because I don't have a midi controller, and automating volumes via keyboard can't be easy, especially if I want to create a gradual shape. Anyone can suggest a solution? Thanks! Re: What's the easiest CD burning software?
Windows media Player will allow you to burn cd's and so will winamp. Below are directions for Windows Media. I am getting ready for work or I would write Winamp's directions as weel. 1. Place a blank cd in your cdr drive. 2. When you see/hear what do you want windows to do, press the letter o followed by tapping enter once. 3. Move to where you have the files you wish to burn to this cd. 4. Select a file you wish to place on the cd and press control plus the letter c.? 5. Press alt plus tab back to the cdr drive window. 6. press control plus the letter v. You could select all the files in a folder and press control plus c if you wish. You do not have to do them one at a time. 7. Once all the files are in the cdr window, press alt plus the letter f. 8. Press the letter t. 9. Tab to next and press enter. 10.Windows Media Player will open. So tab to copy and press the spacebar. Do not press space on copy to cd or copy to device. 11. Tab to next: again and press enter. When the cd is finished recording, the drive will open. Have a good day. 10. - Original Message - From: Nancy Shackelford ladym74...@netcommander.com To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Monday, September 27, 2010 11:50 PM Subject: What's the easiest CD burning software? Re: Adobe Audition
Hi Dane, I use Soundforge, Adobe Audition 1.5 and Sornar eight with caketalking. I use Sornar because I can move between the tracks using caketalking and hear the click as I pass each one. Adobe Audition does have multi tracking but it is not very accessible for a screenreader user. You can use the mouse routing keys in a screenreader to reach the various tracks. However, it is not that easy and one must not loose concentration about there they are currently working. I like Adobe Audition's sound efects. I like soundforge for the easy cuing feature and much more. I( have been using some version of these programs fro around 13 years at a school and in my home. Hi John, I used a 25 foot stereo cable with one y-cable having a mail transister jack on one end (these are the standard for headphones on small walkmen etc.) On the other end are two female rca jacks (in my day we called these pin jacks. You would plug the male rca jacks from one end of your 25 foot stereo cable into the female jacks on the y-cable. Plug the male transister jack into the out of your pc. this is where you normally plug in speakers. Plug the two remaining mail rca jacks into the in jacks of your stereo system. The other option is to purchase a set of two Tactile Screen Protectors directly from Solona. For a fixed price, Solona will provide you with two Power Support brand Crystal Screen Protectors for your iPhone that have been enhanced with the tactile keyboard effect. iPhones are magnificent devices. Apple is to be commended for incorporating native accessibility into both families of products. Most people use screen protectors in an effort to reduce the threat of screen damage and to extend the life and accuracy of the touch screen functionality. If you are already using screen protectors, then you understand how they work. Imagine your current screen protector, yet with elevated dots strategically positioned on each key to provide you with a roadmap of your iPhone keyboard. If you have never used a screen protector for your iPhone, I recommend that you do some independent research. Discover how other people use them. Read about how to install them. What exactly will this action do? this will prevent auto start of the cd or program on the cd. 2. Should I press and hold down the shift key after I close the cd drive tray? or should I hold it down as the drive tray is closing. You should hold the left shift key after closing the tray until the cd stops spinning. You will hear the cd slow down. then let go of the shift. This is usually around 10 to 20 seconds. 3. After doing this, will this cause the auto run feature in windows to be perminatly disabled? and how long should I hold down the shift key? No 4. If I set windows media player to (always), I know that it will automatically begin copying the tracks from the cds I insert, however, even with this option set to always, do I still have to have windows media player running when I insert the cd? I usually have windows media running when doing this type of operation. That is not say that you must. Mike Rochester, NY. Over the years I've met, or been in correspondence with, people who love the idea of getting into Internet radio as a broadcaster, but who really don't know where or how to get started. In the short and very successful period Mushroom FM has been around, we've been approached by a number of people who would make fantastic team members, if they could unravel the technical mysteries of how to make Internet radio magic. In talking about this issue with Brian Hartgen, who is Operations Manager at Mushroom FM, we decided to create an audio tutorial that we could give to people who approached us about being part of the team, but didn't know where to start. And so the work began, with us dividing the work roughly in half for us to complete outside of our day job time. Now that the project is near completion, we realise that what we have created is a resource for which there has been considerable demand for some years within the blind community. So we have decided to donate this work, and make the tutorial available for free to anyone who wants to know a bit about Internet broadcasting. We hope many people will benefit from it, and that if you, like us, get bitten by the Internet radio bug, you'll approach Mushroom FM, the people taking voluntary Internet broadcasting to the next level with our innovations, quality output, and high standards. With over three hours of audio content, The Mushroom FM Fun Guys Guide to Internet Broadcasting will be released soon as a DAISY audio book, able to be played with software DAISY players, as well as portable devices capable of DAISY playback. This will make it easy for you to listen on whatever player suits you, while you follow along on your PC. Topics covered include: A detailed look at StationPlaylist Studio that shows how to set up and run this software in an Internet broadcast situation. You'll learn about the benefits of using a mixer, how to cope with requests, how to use cart machines and more. A look at options for getting your broadcast to the Internet, including using facilities within StationPlaylist Studio, using free Winamp tools, or the optional StationPlaylist Streamer. Using the Sam Encoders with soon to be released JAWS scripts to optimise your streaming experience. A session where you hear all the tools we've discussed in action as an actual radio show goes to air. A brief overview of StationPlaylist Creator and how it can be used to make live Internet broadcasting easier. We'll post again when the Mushroom FM Fun Guys Guide to Internet Broadcasting is available for free download from the Mushroom FM website at http://www.MushroomFM.com blocked::http://www.mushroomfm.com/ . something changed in soundforge 9
Hi All, I am using windows-xp sp3 with soundforge 9.1e with window-eyes. something has changed in Soundforge and I can't figure it out. After pressing the letter q for cuing, I would press the spacebar, then hold the left shift down. I would then arrow to the right and hear as the cursor skimmed across the sound. Only the selected sound ould play. Now I still can sselect sound, but I do not hear the cursor move across the sound while pressing the right arrow. I must press the right a few times and wait until the sound reaches it's end and press a few more times which takes more time and I have problems of being as detailed in editing the file. In graduation, the students make a 2 to three minute speech. I then paste that speech over a meaningful piece of one of their favorite songs. This clipis then merged into a powerpoint presentation with photos of their life at school. The clip is played as they come up on stage. Anyway, I tried pressing q again and it just stops selecting and pressing it again, allows me to select again. How do I make the selection play as I move across it? I hope this is not confusing of a question and I got my point across. Sorry for any poor explaination. To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

High Sunshine, The simulators may simulate the warmth of the vacuum tube, but it cannot reproduce the music the same way a vacuum tube can. I had to prove that to a guy by the name of Bob Carver. In 1998, he let me audition his Sun Fire Signature Series power amplifier. Which is a transistor amplifier that was suppose to sound every little bit like a vacuum tube amplifier. I listen to allot of jazz music, some of it being big band. Here is where that Sun Fire Signature Series power amplifier failed me. All of the horns and wood winds, didn't come through that amp like they did when I played those same records using my dad's Fisher 500-s stereo receiver. Which has nothing but vacuum tubes in it. Even listening to some modern R B music, that amp really fell apart there too as well. I don't mean to start a fight on this list, but most blind people can hear things that our sighted counter parts can't hear. I sent that amp back to Mr. Carver with a note that said, BLOCK QUOTE START. tube sound? This is really a big fat joke. To my ears, nothing sounds like a vacuum tube but a vacuum tube, and allot of musicians feel that way too as well. If that isn't the case, then why do they dump the simulators and return to using vacuum tubes in their amplifiers? BLOCK QUOTE END. Long story short, Mr. Carver didn't have any answers for those questions. My best regards. All you need to do is hook up your audio source to the RCA inputs on the back of the unit, and you are on the air! This NEW 100 milliwatt FM stereo transmitter will well out perform most of the low cost units on the market since it was carefully designed to pass even the very lowest audio frequencies down to 20 Hz and up to 15 KHz for the high frequencies. Believe me, this unit sounds just like the big stations! Excellent base and highs!!! Its highly accurate crystal reference and PLL circuitry ensure you will have a very stable signal at all times. The frequencies can easily be selected by pushing the recessed buttons using a paper clip wire. The frequency range is 88 to 108 MHz and the channel resolution is 100KHz. I should also mention that the stereo separation is excellent! We tested this unit against 4 other stereo unit that did not even come close. The unit is housed in a very nice extruded aluminum enclosure that shields the unit. No cheap plastic box used here! For more range a high gain antenna could be used and connected to the standard BNC connector on the back of the unit. If you are seriously looking for a high performance Stereo transmitter, this is definitely the one! - Original Message - From:

adobe audition 1.5 jaws scrips problem
Hi All, I tried installing the jaws scrips for audition 1.5 using jaws 10. this is what I did and now have problems opening adobe audition because I tried switching to miulti-track mode once. 1. copied all the files inside the jfwaudition1.0beta5.zip file to my JFW settings, enu directory . 2. I was told that I would need to open both audition.jss and audtips.jss separately in JFW script manager and press control+s to re-compile them. I did that with the audition.jss file. But I could not find the audtips.jss file to recompile it. 3. Opened audobe audition and everything worked. Until, I tried pressing f12 to switch to multi-track view. But it will work with window-eyes. So it is something in the scripts. Does anyone have some ideas or now where to get some scripts to fix the problem. Now The authors of this version of scripts are: Authors: James Teh, Victer Tsaran and Michael Curran. If any of these people perhaps is on the list maybe they can email me and I will work with them off list as not to clutter up the list. I could uninstall all the audobe audition scrips but I think it can be fixed. I am just the crazy one who probably didn't follow directions correctly. Any help would be great appreciated. You can order both CakeTalking and SONAR at Dancing Dots. CakeTalking costs $289 and works fine with JAWS 10. SONAR has 2 editions which they sell for the minimum advertised price. The Producer Edition is $499 and the Studio Edition is $299. They are both excellent but the Producer Edition comes with a few more soft synthe instruments including the Session Drummer 3, more audio effects and more options to customize some of the effects also contained in the Studio Edition. For $99 you can order the Fast Track USB or, for $199, the Fast Track Pro. Both of these units are high-end audio interfaces/soundcards that connect using USB. It's important to have a separate soundcard to dedicate to recording and playing back the audio that comes with SONAR. Lastly, you should make certain that your PC at least meets the minimum System Requirements for SONAR. See http://www.dancingdots.com/prodesc/CakeTalkingForSONAR.htm for System Requirements for CakeTalking and a link to the System Requirements for SONAR. Caketalking makes it possible to use jaws better with sornar. You can hear the tracks click as you pass them, sounds when arming/unarming a track and much more. There is a program called jsornar I think is free but I haven't used it much to speak very much about the features. Oh, I do use my laptop for reading books. I just put them in a folder and name them starting with the 01, 02 etc. Then I use Winamp to play them all by selecting using shift plus ctrl plus end to make sure the tracks are played from top to bottom. However, the ability to start where I left off has been difficult in the past. However, I hear that the new winamp allows for bookmarking whick I am going to try sometime this next week. Re: burning a cd with windows media player 11 question
Hi there, here is how it should work. Burning an audio cd 1. Insert a blank CDR disc into your CDRW drive. 2. A dialog window should pop up after a few seconds. Your screenreader should say, CDRW (and the letter of that drive.) You are in a list view, Press the up or down arrow until you highlight open rittible cd using windows explorer. Tab to the OK button and hit enter. You could also just press the letter o followed by enter to open the same cd folder. 3. Now hold down the right windows key and hit the letter E. This will bring up Windows Explorer. You will land in the treeview on My Computer. If the files you are looking for is located in My Documents, arrow up one time then tab, and then you should be in a list of the files that are in My Documents. If the files are not in My Documents, then tab one time, hit L for local drive, hit enter. Now you are in a list of folders contained on your C: or main drive. Navigate to where the files you want to burn are located. 4. Now it is basically a copy and paste process. Select the files you want to burn either one at a time or group at a time, and hit Control C to copy the files. Remember that to select files, hold down the left control key and press the space bar on those files you wish to select. If you press the spacebar and you hear the file's name spoken followed by unselected, press the spacebar again and that file will be selected. You usually only need press the spacebar once on each file. Remember to not let go of the control key while highlighting files. If you happen to accidently let go of the control key and then arrow down once to the next file, all files are unselected. 5. Now hit alt tab to go to the CDRW drive dialog. Then hit Control V to paste those files to the CDRW drive folder. 6. If you have more files to burn, use Alt Tab to switch between the two windows. Do steps 4 5 until all of the files you want to burn are copied over. NOTE: Remember the 700 MB limit per CD. Make sure the total of all of your files does not go over that limit. 7. Now once you are done copying and ready to burn, Alt Tab until you are in the CDRW Drive dialog. 8. Hit Alt F for the file menu. Hit enter on the first choice, which should be, write these files to CD. 9. This will bring up the CD burning Wizard dialog. You will be put in a CD name: edit box. The date is automatically put into this box by default. To give your CD a name, first hit the delete key to clear the edit box, then type what you would like to name the CD. 10. Then just tab to the next button and hit the space bar. 11. You are given the choice of two radio buttons. The highlighted one is make an audio cd for standard audio cd players. The second radio button is make a data cd for computer and some cd players. 12.Tab to next and press enter or the space bar. 13. Window media player will open.Tab to burn button and press the space bar. 14. Tab to start burn and press the space bar or enter. The burning process will start. When it is done writing, your CD drive door should automatically pop out so you can remove the CD. You will be placed back into Windows Media Player with the start burn buttonhighlighted. Hi Michael. Personally I use Goldwave, but SF is perhaps the more professional and flexible program. I really don't think it matters too much which you use, unless you intend to do some really fancy recording stuff. If all you are talking about is recording the pure sound of trains, then it's a matter of which recorder, rather than which Digital Editor you choose. Loads of us love the sounds of steam trains, passengers and day trips by train. I have an Olympus DS50 and a pair of BSM Binaural microphones and the sound quality is actually very good. Okay, I need to convert my file, which is not MP3 into an MP3 file using goldwave. but apart from that, my Olympus and Goldwave does the job. Finally, there is a lot to be said about keeping things as simple and basic as you can. This, I believe, can be a sign of professionalism. Clarity and simplicity, that's the answer. Very best wishes. digital turntables question
Hi All, I wish to put some lp's on cd. Currently I am recording them in via Adobe 1.5 , track by track and running the noise reduction option on each track. I'd like a USB digital turntable since data transfer is quicker or other device that would notice the silence between tracks and record each separate into a folder on my computer or hard drive in the turntable that could be transftered to the computer. Is there such a device and where can I find it? I'd like to put many lp's to cd next year after I retire and maybe do this as a side job for locals. Not suggesting anything illegal, just putting famly collections to cd for better sound quality after a lp is scratched etc. To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

Hi, I also use Sornar with Cakewtalk and JFW as well as We with great results. However, I also use soundforge for editing files because of the very friendly cueing feature. I also use adobe audition for addition affects. Probably because of inexperience, but I find sornar's affects challenging to add/change. question on cueing in soundforge 9.0E
Hi All, I use Soundforge 9.0E for e editing. When pressing the letter q, I can then select material and SF plays the selection as I move along and as I select the more. However, something I did now made SF not let me har the selected materail as I am holding down shift and arrowing to the right to select audio material. A sighted friend said something is being select4ed//highlighted, but SF is not letting me hear the selected mmaterials as before. Hope that doesn't sound to confusing. I will write the steps I take below so someone may understand my problem better. How things use to work. 1. Press the letter q. 2. Press the space bar followed by holding down the left shift key. 3. While holding down the left shift, I arrow right and can hear only the material I am selecting. How things work now. 1. Press the letter q. 2. Press the space bar followed by holding down the left shift key. 3. While holding down the left shift, I arrow right and can not hear the material I am selecting. 4. I have tried pressing control plus left arrow to move to the beginning of the file. 5. Then I have pressed q again. 6. Pressed space followed by the left shift plus right arrow with no text beingselecteed.7. If I press q again while the file is playing, it will stop playing. Then if I press the spacebar, I will hear a smal snip of what was selected. In short how can I make things behave again? I would be extremely greatful for any help. Re: moving dvd's to a hard drive question
Thank you Mat, this will help a great deal. I wI thought it one would do what you said regarding copying the dvd to a hard disc but wasn't sure. Thanks for such detailed and helpful directions. - Original Message - From: Matthew Bullis matthewbul...@runbox.com To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Tuesday, March 24, 2009 9:22 PM Subject: Re: moving dvd's to a hard drive question OK, this depends on what you actually want to do. If you just want to store the dvd data on the hard drive, in order to make exact copies of the dvds later, then you need only to create folders with meaningful names for each dvd, and copy the video_ts and other folders from the dvd itself into those meaningful folders. When you want to burn another copy of the same dvd, you can use the data stored within the folders to make dvds, rather than using the physical discs themselves. For instance, if your dvd is labeled production 1, then make a folder with that name on the hard drive, and copy the contents of the dvd just like you would any other file. When you actually prepare to burn the dvd, select the folders within the production 1 folder, rather than the production 1 folder itself. The root of the dvd structure must be those video_ts and audio_ts folders. Now that's how you preserve dvds on a hard drive. However, if your object is to take the video content off of a dvd and make playable files for uploading to Youtube or for play in other formats, then you'll need a dvd ripper. There is a good program which grabs only the audio from dvds called DVD Audio Extractor, but for collecting the whole video source, you'd want something which will turn dvd segments into .avi files, such as a converter named that, or some of the tools within the Nero suite of cd burning tools. I hope that this info helps you out some. Re: converting mp3 to gp3 or mp4 etc question
Thanks for the valuable feedback. I will probably wait as you suggest. I agree with you about reducing sound quality when shrinking the files. I really wish the wav files weren't so big since they are the best sounding in my opinion. Thanks again. - Original Message - From: Christopher Chaltain cchalt...@austin.rr.com To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Sunday, February 08, 2009 11:40 PM Subject: Re: converting mp3 to gp3 or mp4 etc question You can use Switch Sound File converter. The FAQ on the files types supported, which includes a link where you can download the program, is at http://www.nch.com.au/switch/kb/747.html. This is a 14 day free trial, but after the 14 days is up, it'll still work in a limited fashion, but converting from MP3 files won't be effected. I personally wouldn't be too quick to convert your MP3 files, unless you're desperate for space. there hasn't been a media player--to my knowledge--that hasn't supported MP3 files, and I doubt this will happen any time soon. Furthermore, there will always be programs to convert from MP3 (there are just too many of them out there right now) to other file types, so you could just wait until this is needed. Also you won't be improving the quality of your music, and in fact, you may be introducing artifacts. If you're looking for a smaller footprint with better quality, you'd have to go back to your original source. For my part, I'm still ripping music into the MP3 file format. I'm no audiofile, and the convenience of MP3 just can't be beat. I know I can play it anywhere. Note that I have been toying with the idea of switching file formats, but I haven't settled on a new format yet, and I'm not in any hurry.
