Re: Sending Attachments To The List

2010-06-29 Thread Colin r . Howard
Greetings,

SendSpace does have a dropbox facility but I've not investigated it.

Sendspace for a max account allows files to remain forever if you wish, or
you can set limits for just about everything.

Sendspace gives you 100gb for a max account and a maximum of 300mb per file
and a maximum of 8gb per day download.

I cannot remember the other settings but know the premium account allows
files of up to 10gb to be uploaded / downloaded and there are several other
account types too.

There are also different download / upload speeds, the fastest is I believe
10megs per second down and 5megs per second up, dependent, of course, on
your own system.

I have a max account and am very pleased with the service.

From Colin Howard, who lives in a small place near Southampton and after a few
days, likes to change his signature as he thinks it gets boring!

Hi,

Wondering why now when uploading a file to sendSpace no email with link is
sent once file is uploaded? I use the wizard and checked the settings but
couldn't see any thing relating to email.

Thanks, Jamie

Hi, John and listmembers.

Thanks John for the info on Dropbox and Sendspace. This is very helpful.
Sounds like another task to add to my to do list while i'm on vacation.
The only question is whether I'll get it done the week before or after NFB
national conference in Dallas. One more question. I assume I can sign up
new Dropbox accounts after I have activated my account and am assured
Dropbox meets my needs. Is this assumption correct?

Take care and have a pleasant evening

High Rob,
I once tried to sign up for Send Space, but could not find the register
link to do that on the Send Space Website.
A friend of mind, invited me to join her in her Dropbox account, that's
how I got it!
Now to answer your question about how long you can leave files on any
server, with Send Space, you can specify a time limit, so I understand.
With Dropbox, you can leave the file or files up until you get ready to
delete them.
When you download and install the software, it will put a folder in My
Documents on your computer that's entitled, My Dropbox.

You can upload the files from there.
But you don't really need to do anything, because the software will take
care of that for you.
All you have to do is, email the link to the file to someone if you wish
to send it to anyone.

Storage space, I don't know about Send Space.
But with Dropbox, you can do this 2 ways.
#1. you can invite a friend to join you on your account to increase your
storage space.

Or #2. you can rent more storage space for a price.
Other wise, you will start out with about 1 GB of storage space.
Hope this helps.
My best regards.
 John.

Good evening Tom and listmembers.

In terms of anyone's direct experience, how does Dropbox compare in
quality and efficiency to Sendspace as an internmediate web-based audio
file transfer agent? What are the capacity and time limits of each? Is
either or both free or do you need to buy subscriptions?

Thanks in advance for your info and guidance.

Cheers to you

In recent days, two list members tried sending attachments to
the PC Audio list. The Mailman software does not permit
attachments to be posted. This is the case with most, if not
all, e-mail lists.

If someone has an audio related file they wish to share the
best way to handle it is to post a message on the list
describing the file. Then, whoever wants the file can make
contact off list and have the file sent directly.

If there's a need for it, I could set up an FTP option at
pc-audio.org and files could be exchanged with FTP.
